The New York Mets lost to the San Diego Padres tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 58-36.

RHP Max Scherzer started out well with three scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the fourth after he gave up a lead-off single to DH Luke Voit and then allowed a two-run homer to the following hitter 1B Eric Hosmer.

Scherzer settled down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the fifth and sixth and was then taken out.

His final line was six innings, five hits, two runs, one walk and eight strikeouts.

LHP Joely Rodriguez came in next in the top of the seventh and gave up a lead-off homer to CF Trent Grisham.

Rodriguez was later out in the inning and then RHP Seth Lugo followed and allowed an unearned run on a throwing error by catcher Patrick Mazeika.

The offense did not much for the first six innings, but in the bottom of the seventh, LF Jeff McNeil walked with one out and two batters later, 2B Luis Guillorme hit a RBI double.

The bats struggled all night against Yu Darvish and went 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Saturday July 23th at home against the Padres at 7:10 p.m.
