LHP David Peterson got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off double to LF Jon Berti and two batters later a sacrifice fly by DH Garrett Cooper.
Peterson settled down after that with four consecutive strikeouts, but the gave up a solo homer to SS Miguel Rojas in the bottom of the third.
Peterson settled down after that and did not allow any more runs and got into a groove retiring the last seven hitters he faced.
He was in complete control and had stellar command with his slider in particular.
His final line was seven innings, four hits, two runs, no walks and eight strikeouts.
Peterson ended up with a no-decision, but managed to get his ERA down to 3.10.
RHP Tommy Hunter followed with a scoreless bottom of the eighth.
RHP Adam Ottavino came on in the bottom of the ninth and gave up a walk-off homer to catcher Nick Fortes.
The offense wasted lead-off doubles in the first two innings, but in the top of the third, CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a homer and RF Starling Marte followed with a double.
SS Francisco Lindor grounded out, but then 1B Pete Alonso followed with a RBI double.
The bats did not much after that and wasted another scoring opportunity in the top of the ninth after DH J.D. Davis led off with a walk and then advanced to second on a wild pitch.
3B Eduardo Escobar followed with a strikeout and then 2B Luis Guillorme grounded out to second and then catcher James McCann struck out to end the threat.
The offense ended up a dismal 1-13 with runners in scoring position and left seven runners on base.
The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action back home at Citi Field on Tuesday, June 28th against the Houston Astros at 7:10 p.m.
