Mets Beat Dodgers 5-4 In 10 Exciting Innings With An Excellent Performance From Bullpen

 The New York Mets beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-4 in 10 innings this afternoon at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles to split their four-game series and improved their record to 37-19.

After scoreless innings in the first two innings, RF Starling Marte hit a solo homer leaving off the top of the third.

The bats did not much for the next four innings, but finally came alive in the top of the eighth.

SS Francisco Lindor led off with a ground-rule double and then 1B Pete Alonso followed with a RBI double to tie the game.

DH J.D. Davis then grounded to second which allowed Alonso to advance to third and LF Mark Canha was hit by a pitch.

3B Eduardo Escobar and delivered a sacrifice fly which brought in Alonso and gave the Mets a 3-2 lead.

2B Luis Guillorme followed with a walk and then catcher Tomas Nido came up next and delivered a RBI single.

RHP Trevor Williams got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a one-out double to 1B Freddie Freeman and then a two-run homer to SS Trea Turner.

Williams settled down after that and settled into a nice groove and threw four scoreless innings after the first.

His final line was five innings, six hits, two runs, 0 walks and five strikeouts.

RHP Adam Ottavino followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth.

RHP Stephen Nogosek threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Edwin Diaz threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Seth Lugo came in the bottom of the ninth and had a difficult outing allowing a lead-off homer to catcher Will Smith and after retiring the next two hitters, Lugo gave up a double to LF Chris Taylor and then a RBI single to SS Eddy Alvarez to tie the game. Lugo was able to keep the game tied and picked up his 

RHP Adonis Medina followed in the bottom of the tenth with the automatic runner on second to start the inning and was able to close it out after he retired CF Mookie Betts on a fly-out, and retired 1B Freddie Freeman on a ground-out. SS Trea Turner then reached first on a catcher interference by Nido, but Medina was able to recover and strike out Smith to close it out and picked up his first save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday June 6th at the San Diego Padres at 9;40 p.m.
