The offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a double and then RF Starling Marte reached on an infield single.
SS Francisco Lindor grounded out, but then 1B Pete Alonso continued his torrid start with a RBI single and then advanced to second a wild pitch by RHP Adrian Houser.
LF Jeff McNeil followed with a RBI double and 3B Eduardo Escobar then hit a sacrifice fly.
The bats were held scoreless for the next three innings until the bottom of the fifth after Nimmo led off with a single and then Marte grounded into a fielder's choice and then SS Francisco Lindor grounded out for the second out of the inning.
Alonso came up next with Marte on second and hit another RBI for his second RBI of the night and 59th RBI this season.
RHP Chris Bassitt was in complete command all night and bounced back after a rough last four outings allowing 18 earned runs in his last 19 2/3 innings pitched.
Bassitt threw a season-high eight innings allowing no runs on three hits and one walk with seven strikeouts.
He picked up his fifth win and lowered his ERA to 3.89.
Bassitt threw 18 first-pitch strikes out of the 25 batters he faced and also threw 77 out of his 109 total pitches for strikes.
He also mixed in all of his pitches well particularly his curveball which helped keep the Milwaukee hitters off-balanced.
It was his best performance in a while and he worked fast and looked confident on the mound and hopefully this means he has turned the corner from his rough stretch.
RHP Drew Smith came on in the top of the ninth and closed it out with a 1-2-3 inning.
The Mets next game is at home tomorrow night, Wednesday June 15th against the Brewers at 7:10 p.m.
