The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 5-3 this afternoon at LoanDepot Park in Miami, Florida for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 47-26.

After a scoreless top of the first, 1B Pete Alonso hit a solo homer in the top of the second.

In the top of the fourth, RF Starling Marte led off with a single and SS Francisco Lindor followed with a double.

Alonso then flew out, but LF Mark Canha came up next and hit a RBI ground-out.

DH J.D. Davis followed with a walk and then 3B Eduardo Escobar hit a RBI single.

The bats did not do much for the next three innings until the top of the eighth after Alonso led off in the inning and delivered once again with a solo homer, his second of the day.

In the top of the ninth, catcher James McCann singled with one out and then CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a RBI double.

RHP Chris Bassitt started out well with three scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the fourth after DH Jesus Aguilar singled with one out and then CF Jesus Sanchez followed with a two-run homer.

In the bottom of the fifth, Bassitt's struggles with giving up homers continued after he gave up a solo homer to RF Bryan De La Cruz.

Bassitt settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the sixth and seventh and was then taken out.

His final line was seven innings, six hits, three runs, no walks and five strikeouts.

He picked up his sixth win.

RHP Seth Lugo followed with a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth and had a dominating performance striking out the side and picked up his 16th save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday June 26th at the Marlins at 12:05 p.m.
