Mets Beat Padres 11-5 And Eduardo Escobar Leads Offense With Cycle

The New York Mets beat the San Diego Padres 11-5 tonight at Petco Park in San Diego, CA for their their second consecutive win and improved their record to 38-19.

In the top of the first inning, RF Starling Marte singled with one out and then DH Pete Alonso and LF Mark Canha walked to load the bases.

1B J.D. Davis came up next and also walked to bring in the first run of the game and then 3B Eduardo Escobar followed with a two-run single.

After scoreless innings in the top of the top of the second and third, Escobar doubled to lead off the fourth and then three batters later, Nimmo reached on an infield hit to score Escobar.

In the top of the fifth, Alonso led off and reached on an error by 3B Manny Machado and the Canha followed with a double.

Davis then hit a sacrifice fly to score Alonso.

The offense was held scoreless in the top of the sixth and seventh and in the top of the eighth, Davis led off with a single and Escobar followed with a two-run homer.

In the top of the ninth, Alonso and Canha singled with one out and two batters later Escobar hit a two-run triple to complete the cycle. He is the first Met to hit for the cycle since Scott Hairston in 2012 and 11th player to do so in franchise history.

RHP Carlos Carrasco had another stellar performance allowing two runs on five hits with no walks and 10 strikeouts in seven innings.

Carrasco picked up his seventh win and lowered his ERA to 3.52.

LHP Joely Rodriguez gave up a run in the bottom of the eighth.

RHP Drew Smith gave up a run in 1.2 innings.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday June 7th at 9:40 p.m.
