Mets Lose to Cardinals 6-5 due to lack of timely hitting

New York Mets CF Kevin Pillar (Credits to MetsMerizedOnline.com) The New York Mets lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 6-5 tonight in St. Louis and dropped their record to 11-12. LHP Joey Luchessi got into immediate trouble in the bottom of the first triple and gave up a triple to 2B Tommy Edman and then a RBI ground-out to RF Dylan Carlson. Luchessi gave up another run in the bottom of the second on a solo homer by CF Harrison Bader. He ran into more trouble in the bottom of the third after he gave up back-to-back singles and then a three-run homer to 3B Nolan Arenado and then doubles to SS Paul DeJong and LF Tyler O'Neill and was then finally taken out. His final line was 2.2 innings, 7 hits, 6 runs, one walk and one strikeout. RHP Robert Gsellman had to come in to get the last out in the bottom of the third and stayed in for the bottom of the fourth and threw a scoreless inning. Gsellman had an effective outing throwing 2.1 scoreless innings with no hits and no walks with one strikeout. RHP Sean Reid-Foley followed with two scorleess innings in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings. RHP Jacob Barnes threw a scorless bottom of the eighth inning. In the top of the second inning, 1B Pete Alonso led off with a double, two batters later CF Kevin Pillae singled, 3B Jonathan Villar was walked intentionally to load the bases and then catcher Tomas Nido was hit by a pitch with the based loaded and 2B Jeff McNeil drew a based loaded walk which brought home another run. In the following inning, RF Michael Conforto drew a lead-off walk and Alonso followed with another double and two batters later, CF Kevin Pillar followed with a three-run homer, his second of the year. The bats went quiet after that and didn't score for the rest of the game. The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Cardinals at 7:45 p.m.
