Mets LHP David Peterson (Credits to Kyle Ross-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 8-4 tonight to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record back to .500 at 11-11. The offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the top of the third after 2B Jeff McNeil doubled and two batters later RF Michael Conforto drove in McNeil with a RBI double. In the top of the sixth, LF Dom Smith doubled, CF Kevin Pillar singled and then catcher James McCann hit a comebacker back to Phillies starter RHP Zach Efflin who then made a poor throw to second which pulled the fielder off the back and allowed Smith to score. In the top of the eighth inning, CF Kevin Pillar led off with a solo homer and 3B Jonathan Villar followed with a single. Villar later came around to score and pinch-hitter Jose Peraza hit a ground-ball that went off of Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins glove. 2B Jeff McNeil singled and then SS Francisco Lindor walked to load the bases. Conforto then drew a based loaded walk to bring in a run and then 1B Pete Alonso broke the game open with a three-run double. LHP David Peterson gave up one run on four hits in five innings. RHP Miguel Castro came in next and gave up a three-run homer to SS Didi Gregarious in the bottom of the sixth. RHP Jacob Barnes threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh. RHP Trevor May threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth and lowered his ERA to 1.93. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth inning and got into immediate trouble after he gave up a RBI triple to CF Roman Quinn and nearly gave up a three-run homer to Hoskins, but the call was overturned after the ball hit the top of the wall and changed to a double. Diaz then left the game with back tightness. RHP Jeurys Familia had to come in and struck out RF Bryce Harper for the last out of the game. The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the St. Louis Cardinals at 7:45 p.m.
