Mets Beat Braves 3-1 behind strong effort from bullpen, Tomas Nido and James McCann

Mets catcher James McCann (Credits to John Bazemore-AP Photo) The New York Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 3-1 tonight at Truist Park in Atlanta to snap their three-game losing streak and improved their record to 19-16. The offense was held scoreless for the first six innings against Braves LHP Max Fried and was playing shorthanded after 2B Jeff McNeil and RF Michael Conforto were placed on the injured list today with hamstring injuries. Catcher Tomas Nido led off the top of the seventh with a double and pinch-hitter James McCann broke out of his slump with a RBI double. CF Johneshwy Fargas followed with a sacrifice bunt in his MLB debut after he was called up from Triple-A today which moved McCann moved over to third. SS Francisco Lindor then drew a walk and LF Dominic Smith was walked intentionally walked to load the bases for CF Kevin Pillar. Pillar was unfortunately hit by a pitch in the face and was down on the field, but luckily was able to walk off the field on his own. In the top of the eighth, Nido singled with one out for his third hit of the game and two batters later Fargo drove in Nido with an RBI double to right field. RHP Taijuan Walker cruised through the first three innings allowing one hit. Walker had to come out after the bottom of the third since he was dealing with left side tightness. RHP Sean Reid-Foley followed and had an excellent outing with threee scoreless innings. Reid-Foley struck out five and gave up no hits and walks and picked up his first win. RHP Jeurys Familia came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Trevor May wasn't as sharp in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a solo homer to 3B Austin Riley, but was able to get out of the inning allowing just the only run. RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scorleess bottom of the ninth inning and picked up his sixth save. The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Braves at 7:20 p.m.
