The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 14-1 this afternoon for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 19-22. In the bottom of the first inning, CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a single and RF Michael Conforto followed with a double. Nimmo was thrown out at second base on a caught stealing, but 1B Dom Smith drove in Conforto with an RBI double.  1B Pete Alonso led off the bottom of the second inning and hit a towering home run to left field in the upper deck, his ninth of the year. Smith led the bottom of the fourth with a double and then 2B Robinson Cano came up and hit a ground ball back to Phillies ace RHP Aaron Nola who tried to get Smith in the run down, but the infielders wound up throwing the ball away which made both Cano and Smith safe. Alonso struck out, but LF Jeff McNeil was intentionally walked to load the bases with one out. Catcher Wilson Ramos struck out, but SS Andres Gimenez came through with a 2-run single. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Conforto led off with another double, and after two strikeouts, Cano ripped a hard grounder that bounced off Phillies 1B Rhys Hoskins which allowed Conforto to score.  McNeil hit a solo homer to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning. Ramos and Gimenez followed with strikeouts, but Nimmo homered against Phillies reliever RHP Heath Humbree.  After a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning, Nimmo led off the bottom of the eighth with a single and Conforto walked for pinch-hitter SS Amed Rosario. Rosario walked to load the bases and then Smith delivered with a two-run double. Pinch-hitter Luis Guilorme came up next and hit a two-run ground-rule double that originally  looked like it was going foul down the left field line, which scored Rosario and Smith. Alonso came up next and hit a two-run homer, his second of the day and tenth overall this year. Two batters later, catcher Wilson Ramos hit a solo homer.

RHP Jacob deGrom came out firing in the top of the first inning with two quick outs and then allowed a singe to RF Bryce Harper who proceeded to steal second and third base. SS Didi Gregarious came up and hit a deep fly to right field, but Conforto made an outstanding play with an over the head catch to save a run. deGrom gave up a solo homer to catcher Andrew Knapp in the top of the second inning to tie the game, but settled in a groove after that. He had a 1-2--3 top of the third inning with two strikeouts and worked around a leado-off walk to Harper in the top of the fourth with a grounder and back-to-back strikeouts. deGrom gave up a double to former Met DH Neil Walker in the top of the fifth, but was able to get out of it with his ninth strikeout and another scoreless inning. He had a 1-2-3 top of the sixth inning with his 10th strikeout. Degrom retired the first two hitters he faced in the top of the seventh and walked Knapp, but struck out Walker to end the inning and was then taken out after the inning. His final line was 7 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 2 walks and 12 strikeouts. He picked up his third win of the season and lowered his ERA to 1.69. It was the 44th double-digit strikeout game of deGrom's career, which puts him two behind Dwight Gooden and 16th behind the late Tom Seaver for the most in franchise history.  RHP Brad Brach followed with a scoreless top of the eighth inning. LHP Chasen Shrieve closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at home against the Phillies at 1:10 p.m.
