The New York Mets lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 7-3 this afternoon to lose two out of three games in the series and dropped their record to 21-26. LHP David Peterson started out well with a 1-2-3 bottom of the first inning, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the second. Peterson gave up a lead-off single to CF Randall Grichuck and then a two-run homer to LF Lourdes Gurriel Jr. He then gave up a walk with one out, but didn't allow more runs. Peterson worked around a lead-off walk to 3B Cavan Biggio in the bottom of the third inning and threw a scoreless inning. He gave up a single in the bottom of the fourth inning, but had another scoreless inning. Peterson had a 1-2-3 bottom of the fifth , but for some reason was taken out after the inning with only 80 pitches. His final line was 5 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts. RHP Brad Brach came in next and got into an immediate jam walking the first three hitters he faced to load the bases with no out and was then taken out. RHP Jared Hughes followed and struck out pinch hitter Travis Shaw, but then gave up a three-run double to SS Santiago Espinal which cleared the bases to bring in all three runs and increase the lead to 6-1. Hughes then gave up another run  in the following at-bat on a RBI single by catcher Danny Jansen. He followed that by giving up a double to Biggio, but didn't allow any more runs in the inning. RHP Erasmo Ramirez came in next and threw two scoreless innings in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings.

2B Jeff McNeil led off the top of the first inning with a single against Blue Jays starter LHP Hyu Jin Ryu, and DH J.D. Davis  came up next and was robbed by Gurriel Jr on a line drive who made an amazing diving catch to rob Davis of a hit. RF Michael Conforto struck out, but 3B Todd Frazier singled with two outs and LF Dom Smith hit a RBI single to bring in McNeil, but Frazier and Smith were caught in a rundown on the bases and Frazier was tagged out to end the inning. 1B Pete Alonso singled to lead off the top of the second inning, but SS Amed Rosario grounded into a double play. CF Brandon Nimmo doubled with two outs, but catcher Robinson Chirinos flew out to end the inning. McNeil and Davis grounded out to start the top of the third inning and Conforto singled with two outs, but Frazier struck out to end the inning. In between innings, McNeil was pulled from the game due to gastrointestinal discomfort and Luis Guillorme came in to play second base. Smith and Rosario singled in the top of the fourth inning, but Nimmo and Chirinos struck out to end the threat.   The bats went quiet in order 1-2-3 in the top of the fifth and sixth innings. They had another scoreless inning against Blue Jays reliever RHP Tom Hatch who came into the game in the top of the seventh. In the top of the eighth, Davis, Conforto and Frazier singled to start off the inning to bring in a run. Smith then grounded into a fielder's choice which brought home another run, but then Alonso lined out and pinch-hitter  2B Robinson Cano grounded out to end the threat. In the top of the ninth inning, Guillorme and Davis walked with two outs, but Conforto struck out to end the game.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action on Tuesday September 15th against the Phillies in Philadelphia at 7:05 pm.
