Mets vs.Braves Game 51 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 15-2 tonight to snap their two-game winning streak and dropped their record to 23-28. LHP Steven Matz had a rough outing and got into immediate trouble in the top of the first inning after he loaded the based and gave up a RBI single to DH Marcel Ozuna. It all unraveled for Matz in the top of the second inning after he gave up a lead-off single to RF Nick Markakis and two batters later walked CF Ronald Acuna Jr. He then gave up a two-run double to 1B Freddie Freeman and next a two-run homer to Ozuna.  Matz gave up a lead-off homer to 3B Austin Riley in the top of the third inning and was taken out later in the inning. His final line was 2.2 innings, 8 hits, 6 runs, 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. RHP Franklyn Kilome had to come in to get the last out in the top of the third. Kilome stayed in for the top of the fourth and gave up six runs of his own after he walked Ozuna with one out and then gave up a two-run homer to former Mer catcher Travis d'Arnaud. He walked LF Adam Duvall and Riley and then gave up a two-run double to Markakis. Kilome then gave up a two-run homer to 2B Ozzie Albies and was taken out after the inning ended. His line was 6 runs on three hits and three walks in 1.1 innings. RHP Jared Hughes came in next and threw a scoreless top top of the fifth, but gave up homers to Albies and Acuna in the top of the sixth. Hughes had a scoreless top of the seventh, but gave up another run in the top of the eighth on a RBI single by CF Ender Inciarte. 3B Todd Frazier made his ML debut as  a starter in the top of the ninth and had a 1-2-3 inning.


The offense was held scoreless for the first four innings until the bottom of the fifth after SS Amed Rosario singled and LF Jeff McNeil drove him in with a RBI double. In the bottom of the sixth, 1B Dom Smith and CF Jake Marisnick walked and Rosario hit a RBI double to bring in Smith,

The Mets next game is tomorrow night at home against the Braves at 7:07 p.m.
