The New York Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 7-2 tonight and improved their record to 24-28. The offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first inning after CF Brandon Nimmo, RF Michael Conforto and 3B J.D. Davis all walked to load the bases. 1B Dom Smith struck out, but 2B Robinson Cano came through with a two-run single. In the bottom of the fourth inning, SS Andres Gimenez singled and then catcher Robinson Chirinos followed with a RBI double to score Gimenez from first base.  The bats went quiet for the next few innings until the bottom of the eighth after Smith and Cano hit back-to-back home runs and two batters later, LF Jeff McNeil double, Gimenez was hit by a pitch and Chirinos singled to load the bases. CF Brandon Nimmo came up and broke the game open with a two-run single.

LHP David Peterson had a scoreless top of the first inning and worked out of a jam with runners on second and third and no out after he got 2B Ozzie Albies to pop out and then struck out SS Dansby Swanson and 3B Austin Riley to end the inning. Peterson was able to get out of trouble again with runners on first and second with two outs in the top of the third inning after he struck out DH Travis d'Arnaud to end the inning. He had a 1-2-3 top of the fourth inning, but got into trouble again in the top of the fifth inning after he gave up a lead-off double to Riley, but then came back to strike out catcher Tyler Flowers, CF Ronald Acuna Jr grounded and struck out 1B Freddie Freeman to end the inning. In the top of the sixth inning, LF Marcell Ozuna flew out to RF and d'Arnaud lined out to CF and RF Adam Duvall hit a solo homer with two outs, but Albies lined out to center to end the inning and then Peterson was taken out after an excellent performance.  He showed great life on his fastball and had a lot of command with his curveball and slider. He was unflappable with men on base and kept his composure even after getting into several jams with men on base. His final line was 6 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 4 walks and a career-high 10 strikeouts. He picked up his fifth win and lowered his ERA to 3.80. RHP Miguel Castro came in next in the top of the seventh inning and proceeded to load the bases and was pulled, but LHP Justin Wilson was able to come in and get Freeman to ground into a double play to end the inning. RHP Jeurys Familia followed in the top of the eighth inning and gave up a solo homer to d'Arnaud, but was able to maintain the lead. RHP Erasmo Ramirez gave up a double and walk in the top of the ninth, but was able to work around those baserunners and throw a scoreless inning to close it out.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at home against the Braves at 1:10 p.m.
