Mets vs. Phillies Game 48 Recap

Mets RHP Rick Porcello (Credits to Newsday.com)

The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 tonight for their third consecutive loss and dropped their record to 21-27.  RHP Rick Porcello started out well with three scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the fourth after he retired the two hitters and then walked SS Jean Segura, a double to SS Scott Kingery and then walked catcher Andrew Knapp to load the bases. Porcello then gave up a two-run single to pinch-hitter Adam Paisley. He was able to get out of the inning without any further damage after RF Michael Conforto robbed the next hitter CF Roman Quinn with a diving catch which prevented more from scoring. In the bottom of the fifth, Porcello retired the first two hitters he faced once again, but then gave up a single to 3B Alec Bohm on a hot shot that 3B J.D. Davis was able to knock down, but not make the throw in time and then gave up a two-run homer to the following hitter SS Didi Gregarious. He stayed in for the bottom of the sixth and threw a scoreless inning and was then taken out. His final line was 6 innings,  6 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. LHP Justin Wilson came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Edwin Diaz followed and threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning striking out the side.

The offense had several opportunities to score all night, but were unable to capitalize with men on base. They had 11 hits, but went  0-6 with runners in scoring position. They left 12 men on base and hit into double plays in the top of the sixth and seventh innings. It's been a recurring theme all season long. CF Brandon Nimmo drove in the only run with a solo homer in the top of the fifth inning.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night in Philadelphia against the Phillies at 7:05 p.m.
