Mets Beat Cardinals 5-4 Powered By Juan Soto game-winning homer and strong bullpen

The New York Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals 5-4 at Citi Field this afternoon to snap their two-game losing streak and improved their record to 30-38.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after RF Carson Benge led off with a single and SS Bo Bichette followed with a two-run homer. Two batters later, 1B Jared Young hit a solo homer.

The offense was held scoreless for the next three innings until the bottom of the fifth after Soto doubled with one out and Young followed with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the seventh, Soto hit a game-winning solo homer.

Mets RHP Christian Scott had a rocky first couple of innings after he gave up a solo homer to 1B Alec Burlerson in the top of the first and a solo homer to LF Lars Noosbar in the top of the second and later in the inning, a two-run homer to catcher Jimmy Crooks.

Scott was able to settle down after that and did not allow any more runs. He was able to get into the top of the fifth and was taken out with two outs in the inning.

Scott's final line was 4.2 innings, seven hits, four runs, one walk and six strikeouts.

LHP A.J. Minter followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

LHP Brooks Raley came in next and threw a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Luke Weaver threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Devin Williams came on in the top of the ninth and closed it out with a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts to pick up his ninth save of the season.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, June 12 at home against the Atlanta Braves at 7:10 p.m.
