The New York Mets lost to the Chicago Cubs 10-3 this afternoon in the first game of a doubleheader for their fourth consecutive loss and dropped their record to 34-45.

Mets RHP Nolan McLean started out well with four scoreless innings, working out of jams and retired the first two hitters he faced in the top of the fifth on strikeouts before it all fell apart.

McLean gave up a single to CF Pete Crow-Armstrong and then gave up a RBI double to the following hitter former Met RF Michael Conforto.

McLean then gave up a two-run homer to the next hitter 1B Michael Busch.

McLean had more problems in the top of the sixth after he gave up a three-run homer to SS Dansby Swason and was taken out after the inning.

McLean's final line was six innings, seven hits, six runs, two walks and nine strikeouts.

RHP Jonthan Pintaro came in next and threw a scoreless top of the seventh, but in the top of the eighth gave up back-to back walks and a hit by pitch to load the bases.

It all imploded for Pintaro after that after he gave up a grand slam to Swanson.

RHP Adam Warren threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Met offense wasted a lead-off double by RF Carson Benge in the bottom of the first and then CF A.J. Ewing hit a deep fly ball to advance Benge to third with one out.

However, SS Bo Bichette and 1B Jared Young struck out to end the threat.

In the bottom of the second, they had another scoring chance after DH Francisco Alvarez and 3B Brett Baty walked to start the inning.

However, 2B Marcus Semien followed by grounded into a double play and LF M.J. Melendez struck out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the fourth, they finally broke through after SS Bo Bichette led off with a single and Young followed with a two-run homer. Alvarez followed with a homer of his own.

In the bottom of the sixth, they threatened to score again after pinch-hitter Mark Vientos and Alvarez walked to start the inning, but then pinch-hitter Eric Wagaman grounded into a double play and Semien flew out to right,

The Met offense was unable to come up with any clutch hits after they went 0-7 with runners in scoring position leaving five runners on base.

The Mets next game is tonight against the Cubs in the second game of a doubleheader beginning at 7:10 p.m.
