The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-4 tonight at Citizens Bank Park for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 34-41.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after LF Juan Soto hit a solo homer with two outs and then 1B Jared Young reached on an error by RHP Aaron Nolan and CF A.J. Ewing followed with a RBI double.

After a scoreless top of the second, Soto led off the top of the third with his second solo homer of the game.

The offense was held scoreless for the next three innings, but then came alive again in the top of the second.

CF Carson Benge led off with a single and later in the inning, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Three batters later, pinch-hitter Mark Vientos walked and then pinch-hitter Eric Wagaman came up next and drove in Benge with the go-ahead RBI single.

2B Marcus Semien came up next and broke the game open with a two-run triple.

LHP Sean Manaea got off to a rocky start in the bottom of the first after he gave up one run on two hits and a hit by pitch. Manaea was able to escape out of further trouble after catcher Francisco Alvarez threw out 1B Bryce Harper trying to steal first base on a strike-em-out-throw-em out double play.

Manaea had a scoreless bottom of the second working around a lead-off triple and then retired 2B Bryson Scott on a ground-out, a pop-out by catcher J.T. Realmuto and a ground-out by CF Derek Hill.

Manaea's defense cost him in the bottom of the third after Alvarez committed a passed ball and throwing error which allowed DH Kyle Schwarber to reach second after he struck out. Later in the inning, after Soto made an outstanding catch, RF Carson Benge dropped a fly-ball by 3B Alec Bohm as he tried to go toward the foul line  which allowed Schwarber to score.

Manaea gave up a RBI single to Hill in the bottom of the fourth, but did not allow any more runs after that.

He had a scoreless bottom of the fifth and was taken out with one out in the bottom of the sixth.

His final line was 5.1 innings, six hits, three runs, (two earned runs), one walk and five strikeouts.

RHP Huascar Brazoban came in next and recorded last two outs in the bottom of the sixth and the first out in the bottom of the seventh. Brazoban picked up his fourth win of the season.

LHP A.J. Minter followed and picked up last two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

RHP Luke Weaver came in next in bottom of the eighth and had a dominating inning striking out the side.

RHP Devin Williams came on in the bottom of the ninth and retired two out of the first three hitters he faced, but then SS Bo Bichette made a poor throw on a chopper by pinch-hitter Gabriel Rincones Jr which prolonged the inning.

Williams then gave up a RBI single to CF Justin Crawford, but fortunately caught a break after Schwarber hit a bullet on a line drive that RF Brett Baty was able to catch for the last out. Williams picked up his 11th save of the season.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Saturday, June 20 at the Phillies at 7:15 p.m.
