The New York Mets lost to the Chicago Cubs 9-6 tonight at Citi Field for their third consecutive loss and dropped their record to 34-44.

Mets RHP Kodai Senga dominated in the top of the first with two strikeouts with a blazing fastball as hard as 98.9 mph, however it all changed in the top of the second.

Senga went away from his fastball and it fell apart after he walked the first batter in the inning DH Seiya Suzuki, gave up a single to LF Ian Happ and then hit RF Matt Shaw to load the bases.

Two batters later, Sengs walked catcher Carson Kelly to bring in a run and then gave up a sacrifice fly to SS Dansby Swanson. It all fell apart for Senga after he gave up a three-run homer to the following hitter CF Pete-Crow Armstrong.

Senga had a scoreless top of the third and gave up a two-run homer to Swanson in the top of the fourth and was taken out a few batters later.

Senga's final line was 3.1 innings, three hits, seven runs, five walks and six strikeouts.

LHP Cionel Perez came in next and threw 2.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Tobias Myers followed and threw a scoreless top of the seventh and gave up two runs in the top of the eighth on RBI doubles by Kelly and Swanson.

LHP A.J. Minter threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

In the bottom of the second, 2B Marcus Semien walked with two outs and then 3B Brett Baty singled and DH M.J. Melendez walked to load the bases.

Catcher Francisco Alvares came up next and drove in Semien and Baty with a two-run single.

In the bottom of the seventh, Alvarez came through once again with a solo homer.

In the bottom of the ninth, Baty led off with a walk and three batters later, RF Carson Benge drove in Baty with a RBI single.

SS Bo Bichette followed by driving in Benge with a two-run homer and then 1B Mark Vientos struck out for the last out of the game.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, June 24 in the first game of a day-night doubleheader. The first game is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. and the second game is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
