The New York Mets lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 2-1 tonight at the Rogers Centre for second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 35-50.

LHP Sean Manaea got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after DH George Springer hit a fly ball to LF Juan Soto and Soto misread the bounce on the artificial turf and the ball went over his glove all the way to the left field wall.

CF A.J. Ewing ran over to recover the ball but the ball went out of his glove which allowed Springer to keep running and score a run. The play was ruled a triple and an error charged to Ewing even though Soto misplayed the fly ball.

Manaea was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the second, third and fourth. Manaea gave up a lead-off double to 2B Luis Urias in the bottom of the fifth and two batters later, a sacrifice fly to CF Myles Straw.

Manea came back out for the bottom of the sixth and retired the first two hitters he faced and then SS Francisco Lindor made an error and Manaea gave up a walk and was taken out.

Manaea's final line was 5.2 innings, three hits, two runs, two walks and four strikeouts.

RHP Austin Warren followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Joey Gerber threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first six innings until Lindor homered to lead off the top of the seventh and two batters later, CF A.J. Ewing was hit by a pitch, but later in the inning, was thrown out trying to steal second for the last out in the inning.

In the top of the eighth, catcher Francisco Alvarez doubled with one out and two batters later, Soto was intentionally walked. However, 2B Bo Bichette came up next in his first game back in Toronto and grounded back to the pitcher.

In the top of the ninth, 1B Jared Young singled with one out and Ewing followed with a walk. Just like yesterday they had another chance to win, but DH Mark Vientos and pinch-hitter second baseman Ronny Mauricio struck out to end the game.

The offense once again was unable to come up with any timely hits going 0-9 with runners in scoring position leaving seven runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, June 30 at the Blue Jays at 7:07 p.m.
