Mets Lose To Phillies 4-1 And Are Unable To Get A Clutch Hit

The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies tonight at Citi Field and dropped their record to 15-7.

RHP Taijuan Walker threw a stellar five scoreless innings allowing two hits and two walks with one strikeout.

RHP Trevor May followed and threw a scoreless top of the sixth.

RHP Adam Ottavino came in next and ran into trouble after he walked catcher J.T. Realmuto with one out and then gave up a two-run homer to LF Kyle Schwarber.

Ottavino then walked the following hitter 3B Alec Bohm and two batters later gave up a RBI double to CF Odubel Herrera and then taken out.

RHP Seen Reid-Foley had to come in to get the last out in the top of the seventh.

Reid-Foley stayed in for the top of the eighth and gave up a lead-off homer to 1B Rhys Hoskins and then retired the next two hitters, but then left the game due to an injury.

LHP Chasen Shreve had to come to get the last out in the top of the eighth and stayed in for the top of the ninth and had a 1-2-3 inning.

The offense was held scoreless for the first four innings, but finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth after CF Brandon Nimmo walked with one out and advanced to second on a ground-out by RF Starling Marte.

Nimmo then moved to third base after starting pitcher RHP Kyle Gibson made a throwing error.

SS Francisco Lindor then grounded into a fielder’s choice which brought home a run, but were not able to score any more runs in the innings.

The bats did not do much after that and wasted several scoring opportunities with men on base.

They had only four hits all night and left 13 runners on base and were 1-8 with runners in scoring position.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, May 1 against the Phillies at 7:08 on Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN.

Mets Beat Phillies 3-0 On a Combined No-Hitter Thrown By Five Different Pitchers

The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-0 tonight at Citi Field and improved their record to 15-6. 

Five Met pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter for the second time in team history.

RHP Tylor Megill threw five scoreless innings with five strikeouts and three walks. Megill had a lot of life of his fastball and battled through five innings, even though he did not have his best command and got into a lot of deep counts. 

He showed that he can still be effective without his best stuff and find a way to get hitters out. Megill picked up his fourth win and lowered his ERA to 1.93.

RHP Drew Smith came in next and had four strikeouts in 1.1 innings.

LHP Joely Rodriguez followed and gave up a lead-off walk, but was able to get out of the inning after he got 3B Alec Bohm to hit into a double play.

Rodriguez stayed for the top of the eighth and retired the first hitter he faced, but then walked pinch-hitter Jorge Carmago and was then taken out.

RHP Seth Lugo appeared next and retired 2B Jean Segura and 1B Rhys Hoskins to end the inning.

RHP Edwin Diaz came in the top of the ninth and had a dominating performance striking out DH Bryce Harper, RF Nick Castellanos and catcher J.T. Realmuto on 11 pitches and picked up his fourth save.

The offense was held scoreless against RHP Aaron Nola for the first four innings, but in the bottom of the fifth, 3B Eduardo Escobar led off with a single and two batters later LF Mark Canha hit a double which moved Escobar to third.

2B Jeff McNeil followed and continued his torrid start with a two-run single.

1B Pete Alonso hit a solo homer in the following inning for his fourth homer of the year and first in his last 40 at-bats.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Saturday April 30th against the Phillies at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Lose To Cardinals 10-5 Amid Rising Tensions Due to Bench Clearing Brawl

The New York Mets lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 10-5 this afternoon at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri, but still took two out of three games in the series and dropped their record to 14-6.

RHP Carlos Carrasco started out well in the bottom of the first retiring the first two hitters he faced, but then allowed LF Tyler O’Neil reached on an error by SS Francisco Lindor and then gave up back-to-back singles to DH Nolan Arenado and RF Corey Dickerson which led to a run.

Carrasco threw a scoreless bottom of the second, but ran into trouble once again in the bottom of the third after he gave up singles to 2B Tommy Edman and 1B Paul Goldschmidt and two batters later, a two run single to Arenado.

In the following inning, Carrasco gave up a lead-off double to catcher Yadier Molina and then hit 3B Edmundo Sosa and gave up a RBI double to Edman.

Carassaco then retired Goldschmidt and O’Neil,  but then gave up a wild pitch which allowed another run to score.

Carrasco next gave up an infield hit to Dickerson which brought in another run and was then taken out.

RHP Sean Reid-Foley came in next and gave up a two-run triple to CF Dylan Carlson.

Reid-Foley stayed in for the bottom of the fifth and threw a scoreless inning.

He came back out for the bottom of the sixth and walked O’Neil who stole second and then gave up a RBI double to Arenado and was taken out.

LHP Chasen Shreve came in next and retired the next hitters he faced.

RHP Yoan Lopez made his Met debut in the bottom of the seventh and gave up one-out singles to Sosa and Edman and after Edman stole second, a RBI single to Goldschmidt.

Lopez stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and threw a pitch up and in against Arenado which led to both benches and bullpens clearing.

This was following Mets 3B J.D. Davis getting hit on the foot and three other Met players getting hit on Tuesday. Eventually cooler heads prevailed and both sides went back to playing and they finished the remainder of the game.

After a scoreless top of the first, 1B Pete Alonso led off the top of the second with a single and DH Eduardo Escobar followed with a single.

Three batters later, 2B Luis Guillorme reached on an infield hit which loaded the bases and then catcher Tomas Nido came through with a two-run double.

Brandon Nimmo followed with another two-run double.

The bats did not so much for the next few innings until the top of the seventh after Nido led off with a single and three batters later SS Francisco Lindor hit a RBI double.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action back at home at Citi Field on Friday, April 29th against the Philadelphia Phillies at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Beat Cardinals 3-0 Behind An Outstanding Start From Chris Bassitt

 The New York Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-0 tonight at Busch Stadium in St. Louis Missouri, for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 14-5.

The offense was held scoreless for the first two innings, but in the top of the third, 2B Jeff McNeil led off with a double and catcher James McCann followed with an RBI double.

CF Brandon Nimmo then walked and RF Starling Marte followed with an RBI single.

The bats did not much after for the next five innings, but in the top of the ninth LF Mark Canha singled with one out and then McNeil reached on an infield single which allowed pinch-runner Travis Jankowski to advance to third.

Catcher James McCann struck out, but Nimmo then walked to load the bases and Marte was hit by a pitch to bring in another run.

RHP Chris Bassitt had another stellar outing with six scoreless innings allowing only two hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

He picked up his third win and lowered his ERA to 2.25.

Bassitt showed off his repertoire with his fastball, curveball and slider. He changes speeds well and locates his pitches. 

He's fun to watch and can attack hitters in a variety of ways.

RHP Drew Smith followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning.

RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth and picked up his third save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, April 27th at the Cardinals at 1:15 p.m.

Mets Rally To Beat Cardinals 5-2 With Five Runs In Ninth Inning

The New York Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals 5-2 tonight at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 13-5.

The offense did not do much for the first eight innings, but finally came alive in the top of the ninth after 3B Eduardo Escobar singled with one out and then two batters later, LF Mark Canha reached on a throwing error by sure handed 3B Nolan Arenado after he threw it over first baseman Paul Goldschmidt’s head, which allowed Escobar to score.

LF Jeff McNeil came up next and doubled which moved pinch-runner Travis Jankowski to third base.

Pinch-hitter Dom Smith then came up and hit a hard ground-ball to Goldschmidt at first, and was hustling down the line and dove into the first base bag to beat Goldschmidt which allowed two runs to score.

CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a two-run homer to helped increase the lead to 5-2.

RHP Max Scherzer had a dominant outing with seven scoreless innings allowing only two hits with one walk and 10 strikeouts. He lowered his ERA to 1.80.

Scherzer was in complete command of all of his pitches and kept his team in the game without any run support.

RHP Trevor May followed in the bottom of the eighth and got into immediate trouble allowing back-to-back singles to start the inning to catcher Yadier Molina and CF Harrison Bader and two batters later walked Goldschmidt to load the bases.

May then gave up a two-run single to LF Tyler O’Neil, but was able to retire the next two hitters he faced and limit any further damage.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth and retired the first two hitters he faced and then walked catcher Andrew Knizer, but came back to strike out Bader to close it out and picked up his second save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday April 26th at 7:45 p.m.

Mets Beat Diamondbacks 6-2 With Another Stellar Outing By Tylor Megill

The New York Mets beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-2 this afternoon at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 12-5. 

The offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after LF Mark Canha led off with an infield single and then advanced to second on an error by 3B Sergio Alcantara. 

Two batters later, SS Francisco Lindor hit a RBI single. 

The bats did not do much for the next few innings until the top of the sixth after RF Starling Marte doubled with one out and then stole third and came around to score on a throwing error by catcher Jose Herrera. 

In the following inning, DH J.D. Davis walked, 2B Luis Guillorme singled and catcher James McCann was hit by a pitch which loaded the bases.

CF Travis Jankowski then came up and was hit by a pitch which brought in a run,

Two batters later, Marte was also hit by a pitch with the bases which brought in another run.

In the top of the eighth, Davis hit a solo homer and then Guillorme followed with a double and then came around to score on another error by Alcantara on a grounder by catcher James McCann.

RHP Tylor Megill cruised through the first three innings with five strikeouts, but in the bottom of the fourth he gave up a solo homer to 1B Christian Walker.

Megill settled down after that and retired the next two hitters.

He worked around a one-out double in the bottom of the fifth and had a 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth.

Megill retired the first two hitters he faced in the bottom of the seventh, but then gave up a double to 2B Geraldo Perdomo and a RBI single to SS Nick Ahmed and was taken out.

His final line was 6.2 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and 7 strikeouts.

Megill had a lot of life of his fastball and also featured a change-up, curveball and slider. 

He's come a long way this year with his new delivery and helped him gain more velocity on his fastball as well as more movement and location on his off-speed pitches including his slider and change-up.

Megill picked up his third win on the season and lowered his ERA to 2.35.

RHP Seth Lugo came in and retired pinch-hitter Pavin Smith on a line-out to end the inning.

Lugo stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning.

LHP Joely Rodriguez closed it out with a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth inning where had two strikeouts.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday, April 25th at the St. Louis Cardinals at 7:45 p.m.

Mets Lose to Diamondbacks 5-2 After Trevor Williams Struggles

RHP Trevor Williams made a spot start and had a difficult outing allowing four runs on seven hits in two innings. Williams had no walks, but also no strikeouts. He didn't have command of any of his pitches and also trouble locating and putting hitters away. RHP Sean Reid-Foley came in next and allowed the first two batters he faced to get on, but then settled down after that and one point retired seven straight batters. Reid-Foley had to come out in the fifth with left leg cramping. He threw 2.2 scorless innings. RHP Adam Ottavino followed and and gave a run in 1.1 innings. LHP Joely Rodriguez threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh. RHP Adonis Medina made his Met debut in the bottom of the eighth after he was called up on Saturday and had an impressive first outing striking out the side on 22 pitches. The offense was held scoreless for the first four innings, but in the top of the fifth, DH Dom Smith led off with a double and two batters later, LF Jeff McNeil hit a RBI triple. Catcher Tomas Nido followed with a RBI single. The bats did not do much after that and wasted opportunities with with runners on base. They were 3-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. The Mets next game is at the Diamondbacks tomorrow afternoon Sunday, April 24th at 4:10 p.m.

Mets Option David Peterson To Triple-A

Mets LHP David Peterson (Photo Credits to Rick Scuteri-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets optioned LHP David Peterson to Triple-A Syracuse prior to tomight's game at the Arizona Diamondbacks. Minor league reliever RHP Adonis Medina was recalled as corresponding roster move. Peterson pitched well last night allowing one run in 5 1/3 innings. He has looked good so far with a 0.64 ERA in three games. Medina was acquired in a trade from the Pirates in April. He has a 3.75 minor league career ERA.

Mets Beat The Diamondbacks 6-5 In 10 Innings After Starling Marte delivers

The offense didn't do much for the first three innings against RHP Zac Gallen, but came alive in the top of the fourth after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a double and RF Starling Mate followed with a walk. SS Francisco Lindor then grounded into a fielder's choice, but 1B Pete Aloso came through with a RBI sngle. After a scoreless top of the fifth, Nimmo led off the top the sixth and once again came through this time with a single and Starling Marte followed with a single which advanced Nimmo to third. Lindor then hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Nimmo and Alonso followed with a RBI ground-out which scored Starling Marte. In the following inning, 2B Jeff McNeil singled with two outs and catcher James McCann broke out of his slump with a two-run homer. The bats didn't do much for the next few innings, but in the top of the tenth with McNeil on second as the ghost runner, McCann led off and grounded out to second which advanced McNeil to third. Nimmo then grounded out to SS, but Marte came though after he reached on an infield hit down the third which brought in McNeil. LHP David Peterson started out well with two scorleess innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the third, after he gave up a lead-off double to RF Pavin Smith and later in the inning, a RBI ground-out to LF Cooper Hummel. Peterson settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings. He stayed in for the bottom of the sixth and retired the first two hitters he faced and then gave up a double to 2B Ketel Marte and was then taken out. His final line was 5.2 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. He lowered his ERA to 0.64. RHP Drew Smith followed and walked 3B Matt Davidson, but came back and struck out 1B Christian Walker to end the inning. LHP Chasen Shreve came in next in the bottom of the seventh and gave up a lead-off infield single to DH Seth Beer and two batters later, a single to Smith and a sacrifice fly to CF Daulton Varsho and was then taken out. RHP Trevor May followed and retired pinch-hiter David Peralta on a pop-up to end the inning. Maya stayed in for the bottom of the eighh and once again struggled after pitching multiple innings giving up a lead-off double to Hummel and after striking out Ketel Marte and Davidson, but then gave up a two-run homer to 1B Christian Walker. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth to close it out and retired the first two hitters he faced, but then gave up a solo homer to Varsho on a hamging slider to tie the game. Diaz came back to strike out catcher Jose Herrera to keep the game tied and sent in to extra innings. RHP Seth Lugo followed in the bottom of the tenth and struck out the first two hitters he faced and after walking Davidson, Lugo retird Walker on a popout to second to close it out and picked up his first save. The Mets next game is tomorrow nught at the Diamondbacks at 8:10 p.m.

Mets Beat Giants 6-2 After a Dominating Start By Carlos Carrasco

Mets RHP Carlos Carrasco (Photo Credits to Corey Sipkin-NY POST) The New York beat the San Francisco Giants 6-2 this afternoon at Citi Field to take three out of four games in the series and improved their record to 10-4. In the bottom of the first, DH Francisco Lindor drove in the first run of the game with a solo homer. Lindor has started out well this year after a rough 2021 campaign with multi-hit games in three out of his last four and 10-28 since April 15th with three homers. 3B Eduardo Escobar led off the bottom of the second with his first homer as a Met and LF Mark Canha followed with a single. Two batters later, SS Luis Gullorme singled which advanced Canha to third on a perfectly executed hit-and-run by manager Buck Showalter. Catcher Tomas Nido then hit a sacrifice fly which brought in Canha. In the following inning, Lindor led off with a single and 2B Jeff McNeil followed with a double. 1B Pete Alonso grounded out and Escobar struck out, but Canha came through with a two-out two-run single. The bats didn't do much for the next few inning, but in the bottom of the eighth, RF Travis Jankowski walked and then Guillorme reached on a bunt single. Nido then bunted into a fielder's choice, but then CF Brandon Nimmo hit a long RBI single to drive in an insurance run. RHP Carlos Carrasco had a scoreless top of the first, and ran into some trouble in the top of the second inning allowing a RBI single to 2B Thairo Estrada, but settled down after that. Carrasco went on a roll and one point retired 18 hitters in a row until he gave up a solo homer to RF Mike Yastrzemski with two outs in the top of the eighth. Carrasco had pinpoint control all game with perfect command of his all pitches including his fastball, change-up, curve-ball and slider. His slider in particular was effective especially against the left-handed hitters. He showed today why he was regarded as a top tier pitcher with the Cleveland Indians. His final line was 7.2 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, 0 walks and 7 strikeouts. He picked up his first win and his ERA actually went up to 1.47 with 20 strikeouts and only two walks and nine hits in 18 1/3 innings. LHP Joely Rodriguez came in next and retired 1B Brandon Belt on a pop-up to third base which ended the inning. RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a 1-2-3 top of the ninth with two strikeouts. The Mets next game is tomorrow night Friday, April 22th at the Arizona Diamondbacks at 9:40 p.m.

Mets Lose to Giants 5-2 After Chris Bassitt Struggles

RHP Chris Bassitt got into immediate trouble in the top of the first after he gave up a lead-off single to RF Mike Yastrzemski and two batters later 1B Darren Ruf. Bassitt then gave up a RBI double to LF Joc Pederson and RBI singles to SS Brandon Crawford and former Met 3B Wilmer Flores. Bassitt's struggles continued in the top of the second after he gave up a solo homer to DH Brandon Belt. After a scoreless top of the third, Bassitt gave up a lead-off single to CF Steven Duggar in the top of the fourth and then later in the inning, a RBI single to Yastrzemski. Bassitt settled down after that and didn't allow any more runs after that and was able to stay in for another two innings. His final line was 6 innings, 8 hits, 5 runs, 1 walk and 6 strikeouts. LHP Chasen Shreve came in next and threw a scoreless top of the seventh. RHP Sean Reid-Foley threw two scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth innings. The offense was held scoreless for the first six innings, but finally broke through in the bottom of the seventh after 2B Luis Guillorme singled with one out and two batters later CF Brandon Nimmo singled. RF Starling Marte came up next and drove in the first run of the game with a RBI single, but was inexplicably thrown out to end the inning after he tried to steal second base with SS Francisco Lindor up at the plate and Nimmo on third. In the bottom of the eighth, 1B Pete Alonso and 3B Eduardo Escobar singled with one out and then LF Mark Canha hit a RBI single. 2B Robinson Cano came up next and hit a ground-out and then pinch-hitter Dom Smith came up and lined out to Flores to end the inning. In the bottom of the ninth, catcher James McCann led off with a walk, but wasn't able to advance any further after Nimmo struck out, Marte grounded into a fielder's choice which caused McCann to be thrown out at second and Lindor struck out to end the game. The bats were not able to come up with a timely hit with runners on and went 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. Mets Beat Giants 3-1 To Sweep Doubleheader Behind A Dominating Performance By Max Scherzer

Mets RHP Max Scherzer (Photo Credits to Yahoo Sports) The New York Mets beat the San Francisco Giants 3-1 tonight at Citi Field to sweep their day-night doubleheader and improved their record to 9-3. The offense was held scoreless for the first two innings, but in the bottom of the third, SS Francisco Lindor doubled with one out and then advanced to third on a wild pitch by RHP Ryan Webb. 1B Pete Alonso walked and then 1B Eduardo Escobar hit a two-run double. 1B Dom Smith followed with a RBI single. RHP Max Scherzer was stellar from the start and cruised through the first five innings allowing only one walk and no hits. Scherzer started out well in the top of the sixth with back-to-back strikeouts, but then ran into trouble after he walked RF Mike Yastremski and 1B Brandon Bell. Scherzer then gave up a RBI single to DH Darin Ruff, but was able to get out of the inning. Scherzer stayed in for the top of the seventh and had a 1-2-3 inning and was then taken out. His final line was 7 innings, 1 hit, 1 run, 3 walks and 10 strikeouts. He picked up his third win and lowered his ERA to 2.50. Scherzer was in complete control all night and had pinpoint command with his fastball, curveball, slider and change-up. He hung in there in the top of the sixth when it looked like he was tiring. Scherzer showed why he is one of the best pitchers in the game and a first-ballot Hall of Famer. RHP Drew Smith came in next and threw a scoreless top of the eighth. RHP Trevor May closed it out with a 1-2-3 top of the ninth and picked up his first save. The Mets next game is tomorrow night at home against the Giants at 7:10 p.m.

The offense got on the board early in the bottom of the first after RF Starling Marte walked, stole second and later scored on a wild pitch by RHP Alex Cobb. The bats didn't do much for the next few innings, but came alive in the bottom of the fifth after DH J.D Davis led off with a single and after CF Travis Jankowski grounded into a fielder's choice, catcher James McCann hit a double and then LF Jeff McNeil delivered a two-run double. Two batters later, SS Francisco Lindor hit a RBI double to tie the game. The offense went quiet after that and wasted some scoring oppprtunities in the bottom of the eighth and ninth, but in the bottom of the tenth, Lindor led off with CF Brandon Nimmo on second as the automatic runner and Lindor came through with a walk-off single. RHP Tylor Megill had a difficult first few innings in the top of the second and third, but settled down after that. Megill had scoreless innings in the top of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings and was taken out after that. His final line was 6 innings, 7 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. LHP Joely Rodriguez followed with a scoreless top of the seventh. RHP Seth Lugo then threw a scoreless top of the eighth. RHP Edwin Diaz threw a scoreless top of the ninth. The game will be made up tomorrow afternoon Tuesday, April 19th as a single-admission doubleheader beginning at 3:10 p.m. Game two will begin approximately 30-40 minutes after the conclusion of game one.

Mets Beat Diamondbacks 5-0 Behind A Strong Start From David Peterson

LHP David Peterson made his first start of the season after making a relief appearance in Philadelphia last week and did a fine job working out of a jam in the top of the third with runners on first and second and one out striking out catcher Daulton Varsho and retired 3B Yonny Hernandez on a ground out in a fielder's choice to end the inning. Peterson had a scoreless top of the fourth and recorded one out in the top of the fifth and was then taken out. His final line was 4.1 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts. The starting rotation now has a 1.07 ERA through the first 10 games. RHP Trevor Williams came in next and got the last two outs to end the top of the fifth. LHP Chasen Shreve followed in the top of the sixth and worked around a misplayed fly ball by RF Starling Marte and did not allow any runs in the inning. Shreve stayed in for the top of the seventh and threw a scoreless inning and picked up his first win. RHP Drew Smith threw a scorless top of the eighth. RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scorless top of the ninth. The offense was held scoreless for the first five innings against RHP Humberto Castellanos, but finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a single and two batters later, 3B Eduardo Escobar hit a RBI double. 1B Dom Smith followed with a walk and then J.D. Davis came up after he pinch-hit for CF Travis Jankowski and hit a RBI single. Catcher James McCann then hit a sacrifice fly. In the next inning, Lindor walked with two outs and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a two-run homer. Alonso now has 14 RBI on the season and 11 as a DH. Mets Lose To Diamondbacks 3-2 After Seth Lugo and Offense Struggle

Mets RHP Seth Lugo (Photo Credits to AP) The New York Mets lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2 this afternoon at Citi Field to snap their three-game winning streak and dropped their record to 6-3. RHP Carlos Carrasco followed up his excellent first start with another stellar performance of five scoreless innings allowing three hits with two walks and eight strikeouts. He picked up a no-decision, but lowered his ERA to 0.84. LHP Joely Rodriguez came in next and had a 1-2-3 top of the sixth. Rodriguez came back out to start the top of the seventh and gave up a lead-off single to DH Seth Beer and was then taken out. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and struck out catcher Carlos Kelly, but then gave up two-run homer to SS Sergio Alcantara. Lugo's struggled continued in the inning two batters later after he walked CF Daulton Varsho and then gave up a RBI double to 2B Ketel Marte before finally getting out of the inning. RHP Trevor May followed with a scorless top of the eighth. RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless top of the ninth. The offense didn't do much for the first seven innings, but finally came alive in the bottom of the eighth after LF Jeff McNeil singled with one out and then RF Starling Marte followed with a two-run homer. SS Franciso Lindor then walked, but 1B Pete Alonso grounded into a double play to end any chance of a scoring threat. The offense got on the board early in the bottom of the first after LF Jeff McNeil led off with a RBI single and RF Starling Marte followed with a single. SS Francisco Lindor then grounded into a fielder's choice, but 1B Pete Alonso came up and drove in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly. After a scoreless bottom of the second, in the bottom of the third, McNeil led off with another single and then Marte grounded into a fielder's choice and stole second. Lindor followed with a walk and then Alonso drove in his second run of the game with a sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the fourth, 2B Robinson Cano led off with a solo homer. In the next inning, Marte singled woth one out and Lindor followed with a two-run homer. After a scoreless bottom of the sixth, Lindor walked with one out in the bottom of the seventh and then stole second and two batters later 3B Eduardo Escobar hit a RBI double. In the bottom of the eighth, DH J.D. Davis led off with a walk and then CF Travis Jankowski singled. Catcher James McCann fouled out and McNeil flew out, but then Marte came up and broke the game open with a three-run homer. Lindor followed with a solo homer, his second homer of the day. RHP Chris Bassitt worked out a 25 pitch first inning and then cruised through the next four innings. Bassitt gave up a solo homer to CF Daulton Varsho in the top of the sixth and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 6 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. Mets announcer Howie Rose was the MC for the ceremony. The statue was created by renowed scupltor William Behrends and weighs 3,200 pounds, is 10 feet tall and is 13 and half feet long.

Mets Beat Phillies 9-6 Led By Pete Alonso's Five RBIs

The offense was held scoeless for the first two innings against RHP Aaron Nola, but then CF Brandon Nimmo broke the scoreless tie with a solo homer in the top of the third. In the following inning, RF Starling Marte led off with an infield singled and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a RBI double. 3B Eduardo Escobar walked and after 1B Dom Smith struck out, LF Mark Canha was hit by a pitch to load the bases and then 2B Jeff McNeil was hit by a pitch to bring in the second run of the inning. In the top of the sixth, catcher Tomas Nido singled with one out and then Nimmo walked. SS Francisco Lindor grounded into a fielder's choice and then Marte hit a RBI single. Alonso came up next and broke the game open with a three-run homer. The bats were scoreless for the next two innings until the top of the ninth after 3B Eduardo Escobar tripled with one out and 1B Dom Smith followed with a sacrifice fly. RHP Max Scherzer worked out of a based loaded one out jam in the bottom of the first striking out 2B Jean Segura and then retired SS Didi Gregarious on a ground-out to end the inning. Scherzer cruised through the next two innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the fourth after he gave up a lead-off double to LF Nick Castellanos and then an infiels single to Segura. Scherzer struck out the next two hitters, but then gave up a RBI single to 3B Bryson Stott. Scherzer was able to get out of the inning without allowing any more runs and had a scoreless bottom of the fifth and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 5 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 3 walks and 7 strikeouts. He picked up his second win. RHP Sean Reid-Foley came in next and got into immediate trouble after he gave up a lead-off hit by pitch to Segura and then walked Gregarious. Reid-Foley then gave up a single to 1B Jorge Carmago to load the bases and then RBI groundouts to Stott and CF Matt Vierling. LHP Joely Rodriguez had to come in and struck out DH Kyle Schwarber to end the inning. Rodriguez stayed in for the bottom of the seventh and walked catcher J.T Realmuto and RF Bryce Harper and was then taken out. RHP Adam Ottavino came in next and gave up a RBI double to RF Nick Castellanos and a sacrifice fly to 3B Alec Bohm, but then retired the next three hitters he faced. The offense was held scoreless for the first four innings, but finally got on the board in the top of the fifth after CF Brandon Nimmo homered with two outs. The bats didn't do much in the next two innings, but in the top of the eighth Nimmo led off with a walk and RF Starling Marte grounded into a fielder's choice. Marte then stole second and SS Francisco Lindor hit a RBI single. RHP Tylor Megill had another stellar performance with 5.1 scoreless innings, 3 hits, 0 walks and 5 strikeouts and picked up his second consecutive win. He had a lot on his fastball and also featured a sharp slider. If he can keep up these types of performances, it will bode well for him and the rest of the rotation. LHP Chasen Shreve followed with one out in the bottom of the sixth and retired LF Kyle Schwarber and catcher J.T Realmuto to end the inning. Shreve came back for the start of the bottom of the seventh and retired RF Bryce Harper and was then taken out. RHP Drew Smith came in next and retired the next two hitters he faced. Smith remained in the game for the bottom of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning. RHP Edwin came on in the bottom of the ninth and closed out the game with three strikeouts and picked up first save on the season. The offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after CF Brandon Nimmo and RF Starling Marte hit singles. Nimmo and Marte advanced to second and third on a throwing error by 3B Alec Bohm. Two batters later 1B Pete Alonso drove in the first run of the game with a RBI ground-out and 3B Eduardo Escobar followed with a RBI single. DH J.D. Davis then walked and LF Mark Canha hit a RBI single. The bats went quiet for the next five innings until the top of the seventh after catcher James McCann led off with a walk and three batters later SS Francisco Lindor hit a RBI single. The offense wasted several scoring opportunities once again and went 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. RHP Taijaun Walker cruised through the first two innings with four strikeouts, but then came after the bottom of the second with shoulder irritation. LHP David Peterson followed in relief and did a stellar job with four scoreless innings. RHP Trevor May came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh, and came back out for the bottom of the eighth. May gave up a lead-off walk to 3B Alec Bohm and was taken out due to arm fatique. LHP Joely Rodriguez came in next and got into immediate trouble after he gave up a single to pinch-hitter Johan Camago and later in the inning a two-run homer to catcher J.T. Realmuto and was then taken out. RHP Seth Lugo followed and walked DH Nick Castellanos and a double to 1B Rhys Hoskins which tied the game. Lugo then gave up a RBI double to SS Didi Gregarious to give the Phillies a 5-4 lead before striking out SS Didi Gregarious to end the inning. Taijuan Walker Leaves Game Early With Shoulder Injury

Walker cruised through the first two innings and then headed down the dugout tunnel. He had a knee injury during spring training and had had arm trouble previously in 2018 which led him to have Tommy John Surgery. Walker's injury leaves the Mets with even less depth in the starting rotation after Jacob deGrom also went on the injured list with a shoulder injury.

Mets starting pitching Carlos Carrasco (Photo credits to Getty Images) The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 4-2 this afternoon in Washington D.C, but still won three out of four games in their first series of the year. RHP Carlos Carrasco got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a solo homer to DH Nelson Cruz, but settled down after that. Carrasco settled into a nice groove and retired the last 15 hitters he faced. He had sharp command of his change-up and curveball. His final line was 5.2 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, 0 walks and 5 strikeouts. If Carrasco is able to build off this start and pitch like he has shown in the past when healthy, it bodes well for him and makes this rotation that much better. LHP Chasen Shreve came in next and retired RF Juan Soto to end the inning. Shreve stayed in for the bottom of the seventh and threw a scoreless inning. He remained in the game for the bottom of the eighth he gave up a single to LF Yadiel Hernandez and was then taken out. RHP Trevor Williams came in next and gave up a single to 3B Maikel Franco and then gave up a sacrifice bunt to SS Lucius Fox which allowed the run to score. Later in the inning, 1B Pete Alonso made a key throwing eror on a grounder by 2B Cesar Hernandez after making another throwing error earlier in the inning. Williams then gave up a two-run single to Cruz. The offense were held scoreless for the first three innings until the top of the fourth after SS Francisco Lindor led off the inning with a solo homer. Three baters later, 3B Eduardo Escobar doubled and DH Dom Smith walked. RF Mark Canha continued his hot start with a RBI single. The bats didn't do much after that and wasted several scoring opportunities. They were 1-8 with runners in scoring positon and left six men on base. The Mets next game is tomorrow night Monday April 11 in Philadelphia against the Phillies at 6:45 p.m.

Mets Beat Nationals 5-0 With An Outstanding Performance from Chris Bassitt

Mets RHP Chris Bassitt (Photo Credits to Brad Mills-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 5-0 tonight in Washington D.C for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 3-0. The offense was held scoreless for the first four innings against RHP Joan Adon, but came alive in the top of the fifth after catcher James McCann lead off with a single and then CF Brandon Nimmo and SS Francisco Lindor followed with walks to load the bases. 1B Pete Alonso came up and broke the game open with his first career grand slam. The bats went quiet for the next few innings until the top of the ninth after Nimmo led off the inning with a double and then RF Starling Marte flied out to right which moved Nimmo to third. Nimmo later scored on a wild pitch by relievr RHP Andres Machado. RHP Chris Bassitt met his Met debut after coming over from the Oakland Athletics in a trade and had a stellar start with six scoreless innings. Bassitt allowed three hits with one walk and eight strikeouts. He was in complete command all night and featured all of his pitches including his fastball, change-up, curveball and sharp breaking slider. Bassitt attacked the strike zone and kept pouring in strikes. He will be fun to watch as this season progresses. RHP Drew Smith followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh. LHP Joely Rodriguez threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth. RHP Adam Ottavino closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth. The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at the Nationals at 1:35 p.m.

Mets Beat Nationals 7-3 in Max Scherzer's Return to Washington

Mets RHP Max Scherzer (Photo Credits to Tommy Gilligan-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 7-3 in Washington D.C. for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 2-0. The offense was held scoreless for the first two innings, but in the top of the third 2B Jeff McNeil hit a solo homer. In the following inning, SS Francisco Lindor led off with a walk and two batters later 3B Eduardo Esbocar doubled. DH Robinson Cano followed with a two-run single. In the next inning, CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a triple and RF Starling Marte followed with a RBI double. In thw top of the sixth, LF Mark Canha led off with a single and then 2B Jeff McNeil reached on an infield single. Catcher Tomas Nido then moved Canha and McNeil to third and second with a sacrifice bunt and Marte capped off his stellar night with a two-run single. After a scoreless top of the seventh and eighth innings, 1B Pete Alonso led off the top of the ninth with a double and Escobar then walked. Pinch-hitter Dom Smith and Canha struck out, but then McNeil tacked on an insurance run with a RBI single. RHP Max Scherzer made his Met debut and started out well with a scoreless bottom of the first, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the secod. Scherzer hit 1B Josh Bell and then gave up a single to catcher Keibert Ruiz. LF Yadiel Hernandez then hit a sacrifice fly but Scherzer didn't allow any more runs in the inning. Scherzer had a scoreless bottom of the third, but in the bottom of the fourth he gave up a lead-off he gave up a lead-off single to DH Nelson Cruz and a two-run homer to Bell. Scherzer settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings and was then taken out. His final line was 6 innings, 3 runs, 1 walk and 6 strikeouts. He didn't have his best stuff, but he fought through it and kept his team in the game. He picked up his first win. RHP Drew Smith followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh. RHP Seth Lugo threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth. RHP Sean Reid-Foley closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth. The Mets next game is at the Nationals tomorrow night April 9 at 7:05 p.m.

X-Rays Negative on Francisco Lindor Jaw

New York Mets SS Francisco Lindor (Photo Credits to Tommy Gilligan-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets announced that x-rays on SS Fransisco Lindor were negative and that he passed a concussion test after he was hit in the face in the top of the fifth on a pitch by Washinton Nationals reliever Steve Cishek. Mets manager Buck Showalter rushed out of the dugout right away which caused both benches to clear. Yesterday 1B Pete Alonso and catcher James McCann were hit by Nationals relievers in the same spot.

Mets Beat Nationals 5-1 On Opening Day Behind a Strong Outing By Tylor Megill

Mets RHP Tylor Megill (Photo Credits to Alex Brandon-AP) The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 5-1 tonight on Opening Day at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. The offense was held scoreless for the first four innings against LHP Patrick Corbin, but came alive in the top of the fifth. 2B Robinson Cano led off the inning with a bunt single and CF Mark Canha followed with a walk. LF Jeff McNeil then singled to load the bases and then catcher James McCann was hit by a pitch which brought in a run. RF Starling Marte then grounded into a fielder's choice which brought home a run. In the following inning, 1B Pete Alonso singled with one out and two batters later Cano walked. Canha and McNeil then followed with RBI singles. After a scoreless top of the sixth, DH J.D. Davis hit a lead-off double in the top of the seventh and SS Franciso Lindor followed with a RBI single. RHP Tylor Megill had a stellar outing in his debut start of his second year with five scoreless innings, three hits, no walks and six strikeouts. Megill was in complete command all night particularly with his change-up and slider. He also had a lot of life of fastball dialing it up to 98 mph. Megill showed off his composure and poise especially in the third inning when he struck out star RF Juan Soto with a runner on third and one out and then got DH Nelson Cruz to ground out to end the inning. He has a bright future with his stuff and composure and it will be fun to see if he can build off this excellent outing going forward. RHP Trevor May followed and gave up a run in the bottom of the sixth on a solo homer by Soto. RHP Adam Ottavo then threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh. RHP Seth Lugo threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth. RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scorless bottom of the ninth. The Mets next game is at the Nationals tomorrow night April 8 at 7:05 p.m.

Mets Acquire Reliever Joely Rodriguez From Yankees For Miguel Castro

MetsLHP Joely Rodriguez (Photo Creditd to Vincent Carchietta-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets acquired LHP Joely Rodriguez from the New York Yankees for reliever RHP Miguel Castro. Rodriguez has a career 4.61 ERA in 95 2/3 innings. He had a better year last year with a 2.84 ERA after he came over to the Yankees from Texas Rangers in Joey Gallo trade. Rodriguez is a sinker ball pitcher who can produce a lot of ground balls. He is a much needed lefty in a bullpen that has all righty relievers including Edwin Diaz, Seth Lugo, Adam Ottavano and Trevor May.

Jacob DeGrom To Miss Opening Day Start With Stress Reaction In Shoulder Blade

Mets RHP Jacob deGrom (Photo Credits to Getty Images) New York Mets RHP Jacob deGrom will miss his Opening Day start after an MRI revealed yestersay he has a stress reaction in his shoulder blade. There's no timetable on DeGrom's return and is expected to be shut down from throwing for four weeks before being reassessed. Without DeGrom this is a crushing blow to the Mets starting rotation and they will need other pitchers like Chris Bassitt, Carlos Carrasco and Taijuan Walker to pitch well in his absence.
