The New York Mets lost to the Cincinnati Reds 10-5 today to snap their three-game winning streak and dropped their record to 63-80. RHP Jacob deGrom didn't have his best stuff, but was able to limit the damage to two runs on three hits in six innings and had 10 strikeouts and wound up with a no-decision. DeGrom is the third Mets pitcher along with Tom Seaver and Dwight Gooden to strike out 10 + batters ten times in a single season. After deGrom was taken out, RHP Paul Sewald came in next and gave up three-runs on a three-run homer by SS Zack Cosart and recorded only two outs. RHP Jerry Blevins followed and got the last out in the top of the seventh inning. RHP Jeurys Familia gave up go-ahead runs in the top of the eighth inning on a two-run homer by catcher Tucker Barnhart. LHP Josh Smoker was able to get 1B Joey Votto for the last out in the eighth inning. RHP Hansel Robles allowed three runs in the top of the ninth inning on a three-run homer by Barnhart.
The Mets offense got off to a quick start in the bottom of the first inning on a RBI ground-out by catcher Travis d'Arnaud. 1B Dominic Smith hit a RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning. Smith drove in another run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a solo homer and has hit five homers since being called up with five extra-base hits and eight RBI's in September. 2B Jose Reyes hit a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth.
Injury News:
