Rookie RHP Chris Flexen had a rough start allowing seven runs on nine hits in four innings. He gave up two walks and had one strikeout. RHP Jeurys Familia allowed a run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by RF Josh Reddick. LHP Josh Smoker followed and recorded the first two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning. RHP A.J. Ramos got the last out in the inning.
The Mets offense got off to a quick start in the top of the first inning with two runs. Catcher Travis d'Arnaud hit a RBI ground-out and first baseman Dominic Smith hit a RBI single. In the top of the second innings, the Mets scored two more runs. CF Juan Lagares hit a RBI single and RF Norichika Aoki also hit a RBI single. In the top of the fifth, Aoki hit another RBI single. Later on in the top of the fifth, LF Brandon Nimmo drew a walk with the based loaded which brought in a run.
