The New York Mets defeated the Cincinnati Reds 7-2 tonight for their second consecutive win and third in last four games to improve their record to 61-79. RHP Matt Harvey got the start on normal rest and had a better outing after his last start in Houston. Harvey allowed two runs on five hits in five innings. He gave up one walk and had one strike. Harvey showed more life on his fastball and threw as hard as 95 mph, but threw mostly 92-94 mph. It was a good step forward for him and hopefully he can build off this start. Harvey picked up his fifth win of the season. LHP Josh Smoker followed and pitched a scoreless top of the sixth inning. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched two scoreless innings in the top of the seventh and eighth innings. RHP A.J. Ramos closed it out in a non-save situation with a scoreless top of the ninth inning.
1B Dominc Smith drove home the first run of the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the second inning. SS Jose Reyes hit a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth inning. LF Brandon Nimmo hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth inning. CF Juan Lagares followed with a solo homer. Nimmo hit another homer in the bottom of the sixth inning, a two-run shot and also had a double and a walk.
