Mets vs. Phillies Game 138 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 9-1 tonight and dropped their record to 59-79. RHP Jacob deGrom had a difficult outing and one of his worst starts this year, despite throwing hard early in the game . Degrom allowed nine runs (six earned) on ten hits in 3 2/3 innings. He gave up two walks and had five strikeouts. After deGrom was taken out, LHP Josh Smoker pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Rookie RHP Jacob deGrom pitched a scoreless top of the sixth inning. RHP Kevin McGowan pitched a scoreless top of the seventh inning. RHP Erik Goedell pitched a scoreless top of the eighth inning. Rookie RHP Jamie Callahan pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

The Mets offense got off to a fast start on a RBI double by catcher Travis d'Arnaud in the bottom of the first inning. After that, they went quietly against Phillies starter RHP Ben Lively, who gave up only four hits.
