The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 5-4 tonight for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 65-86. SS Jose Reyes got the offense off to a fast start with a lead-off homer in the top of the first inning, but went scoreless for the next four innings. Catcher Travis d'Arnaud hit a two-run homer in the top of the sixth inning. Reyes drove in another run with an RBI single in the top of the ninth inning.
RHP Seth Lugo had a solid start allowing one run on three hits in five inning with one walk and three strikeouts. Lugo was taken out after five innings after only throwing 83 pitches. LHP Josh Smoker came in next and pitched a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. LHP Jerry Blevins pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. RHP A.J. Ramos came on in the bottom of the ninth inning to close it out, but wound up allowing three runs and blowing the save. Ramos gave up a solo homer to 1B Justin Bour and RBI singles to pinch-hitter A.J. Ellis and LF Ichiro Suzuki. RHP Paul Sewald had to come in to get the last out of the ninth inning after striking out CF Christian Yelich and came back out for the bottom of the tenth inning and gave up a walk-off homer to catcher J.T. Realmunto.
