The New York Mets lost to the Colarado Rockies tonight 6-1 to lose their third consecutive game and drop their record to 53-49. They are now 7 games behind the Washington Nationals for first place in the National League East. LHP Steven Matz took the loss after he allowed 2 runs in 7 innings. He gave 10 hits and 1 walk. He had 5 strikeouts. After Matz was taken out, RHP Erik Goedell came in and gave up a run in the seventh. LHP Antonio Bastardo allowed 3 runs in the top of eighth inning.
The Mets offense struggled once again and couldn't get a timely hit with runners in scoring position. The only run they scored was on a solo homer by 1B James Loney. They were unable to score with the based loaded. It's very frustrating how they are not able to hit with men on base. Something has to be done to shake this lineup out of its slump. . They need to make a move to shake this offense up before the trading deadline at 4:00 P.M. on Monday. They need to get a bat like Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy. He hits well with runners in scoring position and would hopefully help the offense get some timely hits in key spots. He's the kind of hitter the Mets lack in their lineup and would definitely make a difference.
