The New York Mets lost to the Florida Marlins tonight 7-2 to drop their record to 51-45. They are now 6 games behind the Washington Nationals for first place in the National League East. RHP Jacob deGrom had his worst outing of the season giving up 5 runs in just 3 2/3 innings. He allowed one walk and struck out 5. This was a far cry from Degrom's last outing where he had a complete game 1 hit shutout against the Phillies. He didn't have the same command as his last start and he fell behind many of the Marlins hitters. It was a difficult start for him, but he will bounce back. Every pitcher has a rough outing, even the best outings. After deGrom was taken out, RHP Seth Lugo came in and gave up a run. LHP Antonio Bastardo also gave up a run.
The Mets offense struggled against Marlins starter RHP Jose Fernandez and managed only 2 runs. LF Yoenis Cespedes hit an RBI single. 1B James Loney hit a sacrifice fly.
