The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 3-2 to lose their third consecutive game going into the All Star break and drop their record to 47-41. They are now 6 games behind the Nationals for first place in the National League East. LHP Steven Matz took the loss after allowed 3 runs in 7 innings. He gave up 4 walks and struck out 5 batters. After Matz was taken out, LHP Jerry Blevins and RHP Addison Reed combined to pitch a scoreless eighth inning. Reed also pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
The only runs the Mets scored were on 2 solo homers by SS Jose Reyes. The offense needs CF Yoenis Cespedes after the All Star break. They have sorely missed his bat in the lineup.
The Mets next game isn't until Friday night at Citizens Bank Park against the Philadelphia Phillies.
