Mets vs. Marlins Game 97 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 3-0 today to improve their record to 52-4 and to take 2 out of 3 games in the series. They are now 5 games out of first place in the National League East after the Washington Nationals lost to the San Diego Padres today. 3B Jose Reyes concluded his terrific series with a RBI single, his 101st in his Met career. LF Yoenis Cespedes hit an RBI single. 1B James Loney also hit an RBI single.

LHP Steven Matz pitched 6 scoreless innings. He allowed 4 hits and had 6 strikeouts. He picked up his eighth win of the season. This was Matz's first win since May 25th against the Nationals. This was a huge step in the right direction for Matz. Hopefully this performance will help him to start to get to back to the dominant pitcher he was early in the season. After Matz was taken out, RHP Hansel Robles pitched a scoreless seventh inning. RHP Addison Reed pitched a scoreless eighth inning. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless ninth inning and picked up his 35th save.
