The New York Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs last night 10-2 in a game that featured two rain delays. They have won two consecutive games, but remain six games behind the Washington Nationals for first place in the National League East. RHP Jacob deGrom picked up his first win since April 30th. He only went five innings due to the rain delays, but allowed just one run and one walk. He had seven strikeouts. LHP Jerry Blevins pitched a scoreless sixth inning. RHP Hansel Robles gave up and an unearned run in the seventh. RHP Seth Lugo pitched 2 scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth innings in his MLB debut. His velocity got up to as high as 97 mph and also featured a sharp curveball as well.
The Mets offense exploded for 10 runs and a season-high five home runs. 1B James Loney hit a homer and also hit a 2 run double. He had 3 hits and 3 RBI's. SS Asdrubal Cabrera hit 2 homers and had 3 RBI's. RF Brandon Nimmo hit his first major home run, a three-run shot. CF Yoenis Cespdes hit a solo homer. It's only been a couple of games, but it appears Nimmo might have inspired and help wake up this offense. His enthusiasm has helped rub off on the rest of the team.
