The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 3-2 tonight to improve their record to 51-44. They are now 5 games behind the Washington Nationals for first place in the National League East and 4 in the loss column. 3B Jose Reyes was the sparkplug for the offense with 3 hits, an RBI single a double and a stolen base. He also had 2 runs scored. This was the kind of game that the Mets were hoping for from Reyes when they signed him as a free agent. He showed that he can still be an effective player by getting on base, scoring runs and stealing bases. LF Yoenis Cespedes added 2 sac flies.
RHP Logan Verrett pitched a solid game with 2 runs in 5 1/3 innings. He had one walk and struck out three. He wound up with a no-decision, RHP Hansel Robles came in next and pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings. He picked up his fifth win of the season. RHP Addison Reed pitched a scoreless eighth. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless ninth and picked up his 34th save and his 50th consecutive season dating back to last season.
