Weekend Review: Colorado, Eric Young's injury, Granderson, and more

This past weekend saw the New York Mets drop three of four to the red hot Colorado Rockies. Looking ahead, the Mets try to keep climbing over .500 against the Marlins in Miami. Here are the highlights from the weekend that was:

Colorado is now a place of horrors for the New York Mets. The Mets entered into Denver with a 15-11 record, only to see is fall to 16-14 by weekend's end. Three of the four Mets' starters failed to get past the fifth inning. Jenrry Mejia surrendered eight runs on Saturday night, followed by a Kyle Farnsworth blown save. Dillon Gee was sensational in game four, helping the Mets run out of Denver with a W.

Eric Young Jr. was struck his cheekbone face by a batted ball while watching batting practice on Sunday, resulting in his removal from the lineup. E.Y. had a CT scan that came back negative, and he passed a concussion test.

Curtis Granderson woke up in Denver, belting a two run homer Friday night, and driving in three more runs in the remaining games. While not hitting many doubles, Curtis has gotten on base, driven in runs, and scored. In fact, the entire Mets' outfield hit in Colorado over the weekend combining to hit .403 with five RBI.

Lucas Duda, Daniel Murphy, and David Wright all saw their batting averages climb over the weekend series against the Rockies.

Long-time Met fan Kyle Paul (@FLMetsFan973) put it this way, "If anything, I'm glad that this series was played this early in the season. Losing 3 out of 4 now practically means nothing. Losing 3 out of 4 in August or September could mean the difference between going to October and going home."

Jon Niese takes the ball for New York tonight in Miami, first pitch scheduled for 7:10 PM and can be seen on SNY and heard on WOR 710.
