Juan Lagares finally got a chance to start in center field Saturday, after three days of bench time, and precisely delivered with 3 RBIs and robbed Jason Werth of a home-run. Lagares's benching puzzled many media, fans, and even the Mets' broadcasters. A #FreeLagares campaign began trending on Twitter.
Zack Wheeler made the start for the Mets in their rubber game against the Nationals on Sunday. Perceivably trying to keep his spot in the rotation, with Dillon Gee's return looming, Zack game up five runs, three earned, on six hits, while striking out five in six innings to fall to 1-4 on the season.
Last week, news broke that Met partner and president, Saul Katz, was trying to sell his share of the ball club. According to a May 17th article in the New York Post, Saul Katz tried to convince Met owner Fred Wilpon that he should consider selling his majority share of the team. "There is no truth to the reports of any intentions of selling," Katz told the media. According to a most recent report, Fred Wilpon, 74, plans to turn the franchise over to his son, COO Jeff Wilpon.
Next up, the Mets and Rafael Montero (0-1,4.50 ERA) return home to play the Dodgers on Tuesday night at 7:10 PM.
