Mets Trade Kevin Plawecki

Lockett was traded from the Padres to the Indians in November and had a 4.73 ERA with 118 strikeouts, 33 walks and 1.335 WHIP in 23 starts for Triple-A El Paso last year. Mets Acquire Keon Broxton

Outfielder Keon Broxton

The New York Mets have acquired outfielder Keon Broxon from the Milwaukee Brewers for reliever Bobby Wahl and prospects right-handed pitcher Adam Hill and infielder Felix Valerio.  Broxton is known for his defense, but has also shown he can hit for power with 20 homers in 2017. Last year, he had a down year hitting .179, but also stole over 20 bases in 2016 and 2017. Broxton will most likely be in center field as a fourth-fifth outfielder and will get starts against lefty pitching. Now the question is whether CF Juan Lagares is traded to free up some salary or is paired together with Broxton in the outfield.

Mets Sign Wilson Ramos

Catcher Wilson Ramos

The New York Mets have signed catcher Wilson Ramos to a two-year, $19 million deal. Ramos has an option for 2021 that could increase his contract to $26 million. Last year he hit .306 with 15 homers and 70 RBI's in 382 at-bats combined with the Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays.  He is not a great defender, but is known for his offense. Ramos won the Silver Slugger Award in 2016 and is a two-time All-Star.  This is a good signing for the Mets since they didn't have give top prospects or young players like Amed Rosario or Brandon Nimmo like they would have to do if they traded for Marlins catcher J.T. Realmunto. Ramos is a middle of the order power bat and helps give the Mets a legitimate starting catcher, which they haven't had in many years.

He could also serve as a closer in certain situations to help give Diaz some rest.

Mets Acquire Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz from Seattle Mariners

2B Robinson Cano

The New York Mets and Seattle Mariners agreed to a trade tonight that sends Mariners second baseman Robinson and closer Edwin Diaz to the Mets and that the Mets are trading outfielder Jay Bruce, reliever Anthony Swarsak, minor leaguers Jarred Kelinic, Justin Dunn and Gerson Bautista to the Mariners and are also receiving $20 million in cash from the Mariners. Dunn had a dominant season this past year with a league-leading 57 saves, 1.96 ERA, 15.2 strikeouts per nine innings, and 2.1 walks per nine innings in 73.1 innings and was named to the American League All-Star team.  The Mets are unloading $34.5 million in payroll from their payroll between Bruce's 2 years $26 million and Swarsak's 1 year $8.5 million and are taking on Cano's 5 year $120 million contract.  Bruce struggled this year and hit only .223 with nine homers and 27 RBI's in 94 games. Swarsak had a difficult year with a 6.15 ERA in 26.1 innings. Kelinic and Dunn were first round picks for the Mets in 2018 and 2016.
