Mets Sign Wilson Ramos

Catcher Wilson Ramos

The New York Mets have signed catcher Wilson Ramos to a two-year, $19 million deal. Ramos has an option for 2021 that could increase his contract to $26 million. Last year he hit .306 with 15 homers and 70 RBI's in 382 at-bats combined with the Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays.  He is not a great defender, but is known for his offense. Ramos won the Silver Slugger Award in 2016 and is a two-time All-Star.  This is a good signing for the Mets since they didn't have give top prospects or young players like Amed Rosario or Brandon Nimmo like they would have to do if they traded for Marlins catcher J.T. Realmunto. Ramos is a middle of the order power bat and helps give the Mets a legitimate starting catcher, which they haven't had in many years.
