Mets Acquire Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz from Seattle Mariners

2B Robinson Cano

The New York Mets and Seattle Mariners agreed to a trade tonight that sends Mariners second baseman Robinson and closer Edwin Diaz to the Mets and that the Mets are trading outfielder Jay Bruce, reliever Anthony Swarsak, minor leaguers Jarred Kelinic, Justin Dunn and Gerson Bautista to the Mariners and are also receiving $20 million in cash from the Mariners. Cano hit .303 in 348 at-bats this year and he missed 80 games due to a violation of MLB's performance-enhancing drug policy. Dunn had a dominant season this past year with a league-leading 57 saves, 1.96 ERA, 15.2 strikeouts per nine innings, and 2.1 walks per nine innings in 73.1 innings and was named to the American League All-Star team.  The Mets are unloading $34.5 million in payroll from their payroll between Bruce's 2 years $26 million and Swarsak's 1 year $8.5 million and are taking on Cano's 5 year $120 million contract.  Bruce struggled this year and hit only .223 with nine homers and 27 RBI's in 94 games. Swarsak had a difficult year with a 6.15 ERA in 26.1 innings. Kelinic and Dunn were first round picks for the Mets in 2018 and 2016.
