Mets Crushed By Nationals 14-2 After Peterson and Manaea Struggle

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 14-2 tonight at Citi Field and dropped their record to 10-20.

LHP David Peterson got off to a tough start in the top of the first after he gave up two hits on three hits and a passed ball.

Peterson then settled down temporarily retiring nine hitters in a row, but it all fell apart for him in the top of the fourth.

Peterson gave up two more runs and was then taken out. LHP Sean Manaea came in next and gave up a based loaded walk and then a grand slam.

Manaea stayed in for the top of the fifth and threw a scoreless inning. Manaea gave up a run in the top of the sixth and gave up a run.

Manaea gave up two more runs in the top of the seventh and then RHP Carl Edwards Jr came in next and gave up a run.

Edwards stayed in for the top of the eighth and then gave up a run in the top of the ninth.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until DH Juan Soto hit a solo homer in the bottom of the third.

LF M.J. Melendez drove in the other Met run after reaching on an infield hit in the bottom of the fifth.

The Mets offense struggled all night with men on base going 1-8 with runners in scoring position leaving nine runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Thursday, April 30 at home against the Nationals at 1:10 p.m.
