RHP Clay Holms escaped out of a based loaded jam in the bottom of the first, but was not so lucky in the bottom of the second.
Holmes gave up a single, HBP and walk to load the bases once again and then gave up a two-run single to 3B Manny Machado.
Holmes retired the first two hitters he faced in the bottom of the third and then SS Francisco Lindor made a crucial error and then Holmes gave up a two-run homer to LF Gavin Sheets.
Holmes picked up two outs in the bottom of the fourth and was then taken out.
His final line was 3.2 innings, eight hits, four runs (two earned runs), two walks and three strikeouts.
RHP Reed Garrett followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.
RHP Ryne Stanek threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth.
LHP Brooks Raley threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.
RHP Rico Garcia gave up a run in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly by CF Jackson Merrill.
The Mets offense was shut down by RHP Yu Darvish and they managed only three hits for the entire game.
They went 0-2 with runners in scoring position leaving three runners on base.
The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action at home at Citi Field on Friday, August 1 at the San Francisco Giants at 7:10 p.m.
