The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after LF Brandon Nimmo led off with a double and SS Francisco Lindor followed with a RBI single.
Lindor then stole second and RF Juan Soto grounded out to second to score and advance Lindor to third.
1B Pete Alonso followed with a sacrifice fly.
After a scoreless top of the second, Lindor hit a solo homer with one out in the top of the third.
In the top of the fourth, 2B Brett Baty led off with a single and catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with a single.
3B Ronny Mauricio then walked to load the bases and CF Tyrone Taylor grounded into a fielder's choice to bring in a run.
Taylor then stole second and Nimmo followed with a two-run single to break the game open.
The offense did not do much after that for the next four innings until the top of the ninth after 2B Luisangel Acuna led off with a hit by pitch and three batters later, SS Francisco Lindor hit a ground-rule double.
Acuna then scored on a wild pitch and Soto drove in Lindor with a RBI single.
RHP Clay Holmes gave up a lead-off single to LF Heliot Ramos and then a double to the following hitter 1B Rafael Devers.
Holmes then gave up a RBI ground-out to SS Willy Adames.
Holmes was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the second, third and fourth.
He gave up back-to-back singles to start the bottom of the fifth and then retired the next three hitters he faced and was then taken out.
His final line was five innings, six hits, one run, one walk and two strikeouts.
He picked up his eighth win and lowered his ERA to 3.40.
RHP Huascar Brazoban followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth.
RHP Rico Garcia followed with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the seventh and eighth.
LHP Jose Castillo closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Saturday, July 26 at the Giants at 9:05 p.m.
