Mets Lose to Padres 7-6 After Blowing Four-Run Lead

The New York Mets lost to the San Diego Padres 7-6 tonight at Petco Park to snap their seven-game winning steak and dropped their record to 62-45.

RHP Frankie Montas started out well with two scoreless innings and then gave up a RBI single to SS Xander Bogarts in the bottom of the third.

Montas a scoreless bottom of the fourth and then it unraveled in the bottom of the fifth.

Montas gave up a lead-off double o RF Fernando Tatis Jr and tthen a two-run homer to 1B Luis Arraez.

Montas then gave up a single to 3B Manny Machado and a double to Bogarts and was taken out.

RHP Huascar Brazoabn came in next and gave up an infield hit to 2B Jake Croneworth after Brazoban failed to cover on a grounder to first baseman Pete Alonso which allowd two runs to score.

Brazoban then gave up a RBI game-tying RBI single to LF Bryce Johnson.

LHP Rico Garicia followed with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the sixth and seveth.

RHP Ryne Stanek threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

LHP Gregory Soto came on in the bottom of the ninth and made a critical throwing error which lead to a walk-off single to catcher Elias Diaz.

After a scoreless top of the first, 2B Brett Baty drove in a run in the top of the second on a sacrfice fly.

In the top of the fifth, DH Mark Vientos came through once again with a grand slam to give the Mets a 5-1 lead.

In the top of the ninth, 3B Ronny Mauricio continued his hot start with a solo homer to tie the game.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, July 29 at the San Diego Padres at 9:40 p.m.
