The New York Mets lost to the Baltimore Orioles 3-1 this afternoon at Camden Yards in the first game of a doubleheader and dropped their record to 53-40.

LHP David Peterson dominated through seven innings allowing four hits and no walks with six strikeouts.

Peterson stayed in to start off the bottom of the eighth and was taken out after he gave up a lead-off single to LF Colton Cowser and was then taken out.

RHP Ryne Stanek came in next and it all fell apart after he gave up a two-run homer to pinch-hitter Gunnar Henderson and then walked the next three hitters before allowing a sacrifice fly to LF Ramon Laureano.

Stanek came out after that.

RHP Adam Warren had to come in to get the last out in the inning.

The Met offense struggled all game with men on base going 1-11 with runners in scoring position.

They wasted scoring opportunities in the top of the first and third and wasted a lead-off double by 3B Mark Vientos in the top of the sixth.

The only run they scored came in the top of the fifth after 2B Brett Baty led off with a walk and stole second and then CF Tyrone Taylor drove him in with a RBI double.

The Mets next game is later on this afternoon, in Game 2 of the doubleheader at 5:05 p.m.
