The New York Mets beat the New York Yankees 6-5 this afternoon at Citi Field for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 51-38.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after LF Brandon Nimmo led off with a double and two batters later, RF Juan Soto hit a game-tying two-run homer to the opposite field.

After a scoreless bottom of the second, Soto double with one out in the bottom of the third and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the sixth, 3B Brett Baty hit a solo homer.

In the bottom of the seventh, 1B Pete Alonso walked with two outs and then 2B Jeff McNeil followed with a game-winning two-run homer.

RHP Justin Hageman made his first start for the Mets and got into immediate trouble in the top of the first after he gave up back-to-back homers to the first two hitters of the game LF Jason Dominguez and RF Aaron Judge.

Hageman settled down by retiring the next nine hitters in a row before allowing another solo homer this time to CF Cody Bellinger to lead off the top of the fourth.

Hageman was able to get out of the fourth with the game tied and gave up a one-out single in the top of the fifth and was then taken out.

RHP Adam Warren came in next and gave up a two-run homer to Dominguez.

Warren then worked around a single by Judge and a single by DH Giancarlo Stanton to keep it a two-run deficit.

Warren stayed in for the top of the sixth and threw a scoreless inning and got SS Anthony Volpe to ground into an inning ending double play.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followed with a scoreless top of the seventh with three strikeouts to pick up his fourth win.

RHP Reed Garett came on in the top of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning and came back out for the top of the ninth and closed it out with a 1-2-3 inning helped out by a stellar diving stop by McNeil to throw out 2B D.J. LeMahieu. Garrett picked up his third save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, July 5 at home at Citi Field against the Yankees at 4:10 p.m.
