Mets Beat Royals 3-1 Powered By Another Soto Homer

The New York Mets beat the Kansas City Royals 3-1 this afternoon at Kaufman Stadium for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 55-41.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the top of the fourth after DH Juan Soto hit a two-run homer.

RF Jeff McNeil added a RBI single in the top of the ninth. 

RHP Frankie Montas allowed one run on four hits in five innings.

He gave up 0 walks and five strikeouts.

He picked up his second win.

RHP Reed Garrett threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth,

RHP Chris Devenski threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the eighth and ninth to pick up his 19th save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, July 13 at the Royals at 2:10 p.m in their final game of the first half of the regular season.
