Mets Lose to Orioles 7-3 And Swept in Doubleheader

The New York Mets lost to the Baltimore Orioles 7-3 this afternoon at Camden Yards in the second game of a doubleheader to be swept in the doubleheader and lose two out of three games in the series to drop their record to 53-41.

LHP Brandon Waddell had a scoreless bottom of the first working out of a based loaded jam, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the second.

Waddell gave up back-to-back doubles to CF Cedric Mullins and catcher Alex Johnson.

Later in the inning, Waddell gave up a two-run homer to 2B Jordan Westburg.

Waddell came back out for the bottom of the third and had a 1-2-3 inning and was then taken out.

His final line was three innings, four hits, three runs, one walk and two strikeouts.

RHP Justin Hagenman came in next and had a scoreless bottom of the fourth, but gave up two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Hagerman stayed in for the bottom of the sixth and was taken out after a lead-off double.

LHP Richard Lovelady came in next and gave up a RBI ground-out on a fielder's choice later in inning and was taken out in the inning.

RHP Rico Garcia followed with 2.2 scoreless innings.

LF Brandon Nimmo hit a lead-off single in the top of the first and then SS Francisco Lindor followed with a double.

RF Juan Soto drove in Nimmo with a RBI ground-out and 1B Pete Alonso drove in Lindor with a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the fourth, Soto led off with a walk and stole second and two batters later, CF Jeff McNeil walked.

Two batters later, 3B Brett Baty drove in Soto with tying run.

The Met offense was unable to score any more runs after that and struggled with men on base once again going 1-8 with runners in scoring postiion.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, July 11 at the Kansas City Royals at 8:10 p.m.
