Mets Beat Giants 5-3 Powered By Homers from Soto and Mauricio To Complete Sweep

The New York Mets beat the San Francisco Giants 5-3 tonight at Oracle Park for their seventh consecutive win and improved their record to 62-44.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the top of the third after catcher Francisco Alvarez led off with a single and 3B Ronny Mauricio followed with a single.

LF Brandon Nimmo then grounded into a fielder's choice to advance Alvarez and Mauricio to second and third and then SS Francisco Lindor drove in Alvarez with a RBI ground-out.

In the top of the fifth, Alvarez led off with a double and then Maurico followed with a RBI double.

In the top of the seventh, Maurcio capped off his stellar day with the plate with a game-tying solo homer and three batters later, RF Juan Soto hit the game-winning solo homer to the opposite field,

In the top of the ninth, Mauricio led off with a double for his fourth hit of the game and was then replaced by pinch-runner Luisangel Acuna.

LF Brandon Nimmo followed with a RBI double to bring in Acuna for a much needed insurance run.

RHP Kodai Senga started out well with three scoreless innings helped out by a stellar tag by Maurcio to end the bottom of the third, but then gave up a lead-off homer to 3B Matt Chapman in the bottom of the fourth.

Senga retired the first two hitters he faced in the bottom of the fifth and then gave up a single to SS Willy Adames and a two-run homer to Chapman and was taken out after the inning.

Senga's final line was five innings, four hits, three runs, five walks and three strikeouts.

RHP Jose Butto followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth and picked up his third win.

LHP Gregory Soto made his Met debut in the bottom of the seventh and threw a scoreless inning.

RHP Reed Garrett got the first two outs in the bottom of the eighth and then LHP Brooks Raley got the last out in the inning.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth and had another shaky outing with two walks and a hit by pitch to load the bases with one out, but came back to strike out Adames and Chapman to close it out and pick up his 23th save of the season.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday, July 28 at the San Diego Padres at 9:40 p.m.
