Mets Sweep Nationals 10-0 Behind Nine-Run Four Inning

The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 9-0 tonight at Citi Field for their third consecutive win to sweep their three-game series and improved their record to 84-68.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings, and then erupted in the bottom of the fourth for nine runs.

LF Brandon Nimmo led off with a walk and then 1B Pete Alonso followed with a single.

RF Tyrone Taylor followed a RBI double and 3B Mark Vientos then hit a two-run single.

Two batters later, CF Harrison Bader walked and SS Luisangel Acuna followed with a RBI single.

2B Jose Iglesias then singled to load the bases and DH Starling Marte followed with a two-run single.

Nimmo came up next and capped off the scoring in the inning by breaking the game open with a three-run homer.

The offene did not score for the next three innings until the bottom of the eighth after Acuna hit a solo homer for his second career home and second in the last two games.

LHP Jose Quintana had another outstanding start with seven scoreless innings.

He gave up two hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

Quintana picked up his 10th wn and has a 23.2 scoreless inning streak to lower his ERA to 3.74.

RHP Phil Maton followed with a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Huascar Brazoban closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Thursday, September 19 at home against the Philadelphia Phillies at 7:15 p.m.
