The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1 tonight at Citi Field to take three out of four games in the series and improved their record to 87-69.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, 3B Mark Vientos doubled with two outs in the bottom of the second after former Met RHP Zack Wheeler and then CF Tyrone Taylor followed by driving in Vientos with a RBI single.

The Met offense was held scoreless until the bottom of the sixth after LF Brandon Nimmo hit the game-winning solo homer.

RHP Tylor Megill gave up a RBI single to 3B Alec Bohm in the top of the first with two outs, but then retired catcher J.T. Realmuto on a fly-out to CF to end the threat.

Megill was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the second, third and fourth and was taken out after that with 83 pitches.

His final line was four innings, one run, two walks and six strikeouts.

RHP Phil Maton followed with two 1-2-3 innings in the top of the fifth and sixth.

Maton picked up his third win and lowered his ERA to 3.54.

RHP Jose Butto came in next and threw a 1-2-3 top of the seventh.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the eighth and worked around a one-out single to SS Trea Turner and then came back to strike out 1B Bryce Harper and retire Bohm on a ground-out to third.

In the top of the ninth, Diaz walked 2B Bryson Stott and CF Brandon Marsh and then came back to strike out LF Kody Clemens to pick up his 20th save of the season.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Tuesday, September 24  for the first game of a three-game series at the Atlanta Braves at 7:20 p.m.
