Mets Beat Nationals 2-1 in 10 Innings on Marte Walk-Off Hit

The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 2-1 in 10 innings tonight at Citi Field to snap their two-game losing streak and improved their record to 82-68.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first seven innings, but then came alive in the bottom of the eighth.

RF Tyrone Taylor led off with a double and then cather Francisco Alvarez grounded out to third which allowed Taylor to advance to third.

Pinch-hitter Starling Marte then grounded out to shortstop and then SS Jose Iglesias reached on an infield hit to bring in Taylor as the tying run.

In the bottom of the tenth, Taylor led off with the intentional walk and then Alvarez flew out to right which allowed ghost-runner Harrison Bader to advance to third.

Marte came up next and drove in Bader on a walk-off single.

LHP Sean Manaea had another outstanding start allowing one run on four hits in seven innings.

He gave up one walk with six strikeouts.

Manaea lowered his ERA to 3.26.

RHP Jose Butto followed with a dominating top of the eighth striking out the side.

RHP Edwin Diaz threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

RHP Reed Garrett threw a scoreless top of the tenth and picked up his eighth win.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, September 17 at home against the Nationals at 7:10 p.m.
