Mets Lose To Reds 3-1 And Snap Nine-Game Winning Streak

The New York Mets lost to the Cincinnati Reds 3-1 at Citi Field this afternoon to snap their nine-game winning streak and dropped their record to 78-65.

RHP Luis Severino cruised through the first few innings and did not allow a hit until the top of the fifth on a double by LF Jake Fraley.

Severino was able to get out of the inning and had a scoreless top of the sixth, but then ran into trouble in the top of the seventh.

He gave up a lead-off infield hit to 1B Ty France who then stole second and later in the inning, a RBI single to 3B Noel Marte and was then taken out.

His final line was 6.2 innings, five hits, one run, two walks and eight strikeouts.

RHP Reed Garrett followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Phil Maton came in the top of the ninth and got into immediate trouble after he hit 2B Spencer Steer and then gave up an infield hit to France.

Two batters later, Maton gave up a two-run double to DH Santiago Espinal.

The Met offense did not do much outside of the bottom of the sixth when 1B Pete Alonso walked with one out, two batters later 2B Jose Iglesias reached on an infield hit and then RF Starling Marte followed with a RBI single.

The offense struggled with men on base all game going 1-6 with runners in scoring position leaving seven runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday, September 9 at the Toronto Blue Jays at 7:07 p.m.
