The New York Mets beat the Boston Red Sox 7-2 tonight at Citi Field for their sixth consecutive win and improved their record to 75-64.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the bottom of the third after LF Jeff McNeil walked with one out and then two batters later, SS Francisco Lindor hit a two-run homer.

The offense did not do much for the next three innings until the bottom of the seventh after 3B Mark Vientos led off with a towering 426 foot homer to centerfield.

In the bottom of the eighth, McNeil led off with a single and then catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with a single.

Lindor then hit a RBI double and CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a sacrifice fly.

Two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso broke the game open with a two-run homer.

LHP David Peterson cruised through the first five innings and then gave up a RBI single to 2B Nick Sogard in the top of the sixth and was able to limit the damage to one run and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was six innings, six hits, one run, one walk and 11 strikeouts.

Peterson had excellent life on his fastball and also mixed it his slider and change-up.

He picked up his ninth win and lowered his ERA to 2.75.

RHP Jose Butto followed and a 1-2-3 top of the seventh, but then ran into trouble in the top of the eighth.

Butto walked CF Jarren Duran and RF Tyler O'Neill and was then taken out.

RHP Reed Garrett came in next and gave up an infield hit to 3B Rafael Devers and a sacrifice fly.

Garrett was able to escape out of trouble after he got DH Masataka Yoshida to ground into a 4-6-3 double play.

RHP Ryne Stanek closed it out with a 1-2-3 top of the ninth with two strikeouts.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Wednesday, September 4 at home against the Red Sox at 7:10 p.m.
